QuoteBloody-Disgusting is reporting that Rob Zombie has been taking meeting with Lionsgate and Nu Image to get in the director's chair for the upcoming "Conan" film. This would mean a departure from horror for Zombie, who has previously directed "House of 1000 Corpses," "The Devil's Rejects" and "Halloween."

The new "Conan" movie will be the first installment in a series of films, and is rumored to have a budget of over $100 million. As always, casting will be very difficult and closely watched. The new "Terminator" film is having a similar issue; Who to replace Arnold Schwarzenegger with?

The first "Conan" installment will be written by the team of Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer (Sahara, Cowboys & Aliens). Pic is earmarked to begin production later this year, but the start date will depend on the resolution of the writers strike.

I just don't know if they can replace Arnold.  Maybe they could do an animation like Beowulf and then we can have Arnold forever.

KingOfShippers

Not so sure about this, sure a Conan film would by Kickass and all but with Zombie at the helm well :-\

RobtheBarbarian

At least with Zombie at the helm we can be sure it won't be as Hollywood stupid as it would be if it were directed by the likes of Michael Bay. I'm excited and hopeful. And to be honest, I think the movie will be fine without Ahnald...

Cibernético II

Rob Zombie is making a $100 million Conan O'Brien biopic? While he's still alive no less? I couldn't be more surprized. But you gotta put Arnold in there, it just wouldn't be the same with out him. JINGLE ALL THE VAY!
I really do like pie.

Rob Zombie to Conquer an Empire?!

Are you guys ready for this?! This afternoon we have confirmed 100% that Rob Zombie has been taking meetings with Lionsgate and Nu Image to get behind the director's chair for their upcoming Conan film! In my humble opinion I think this is fantastic news as I'd love to see Zombie depart from direct horror for a bit and show us what he can do outside of the genre. The first film, which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, really could use a companion piece and I think adding a darker element to the mix could be pretty awesome. We'll let you know if anything becomes signed, but your feedback could help make this happen.

Rob Zombie to Zombify Conan the Barbarian?

There was a time when Rob Zombie was content in making intolerable noise metal that served as a standardized test for identifying the troubled youths of middle school. They were happier times, when his pseudo-Satanic messages were streamed through headphones and black t-shirts, making them easy enough to ignore. Now, with Zombie intent on proving himself a serious director, it's becoming harder and harder to overlook his efforts at bringing the same mentality to screens, particularly with latest news that he's in talks to direct a Conan movie.

As much of my brain as his lazy Halloween remake killed, certain regions still function, and I couldn't help but ponder what Rob Zombie's Conan the Barbarian might be like. Then, magically, my vision somehow manifested itself on YouTube. I think it will be just like that, except with Tyler Bane as Conan, and probably with some white trash rape.

I really want to see Zombie that is a little more original. As much as I liked Ho1kC and Devil's Rejects, they were nothing more then glorified 70's exploitation movies.

Anyone heard about his El Superbeasto animated movie?

Hey, no fair, foul

I posted that a while ago, it just doesn't have a funny title.:'(

I don't know, i always thought Rob Zombie was a promising director. But with the direction he's been heading, he's just starting to look more and more like a vacant chasm of unoriginality. I mean... everything he's done has just been derivative. I suppose my train of thought has looked something like this over the years:

Oh cool, that music video looks like A Clockwork Orange.
Oh neat, now that one looks like The Cabinet Of Dr. Calgari.
Uh, 1000 Corpses just kinda' looks like a cartoon crossed with every underground 70s horror film.
Hmmmm... he's just remaking Halloween.
Another remake, huh? Oh it's Conan this time... whatever~

Well, i hope it turns out great if he actually signs on. Maybe moving away from the horror genre will be a good thing for him. He could just be so close to the genre that he can't help but copy and imitate the movies he loves. A departure like that seemed to work for The Devil's Rejects.

And yeah, where the hell is Superbeasto?

Shocktillyoudrop.com is saying with confirmation from Zombie's people that his next film is called Tyrannosaurus Rex for a 2009 release. So if he does get it we won't see it for awhile.

There are rumors that Zombie posted that on bloodydisgusting himself, to drum up hype.

Frankly I don't get old Rob. I'd have thought he would have remade White Zombie by now. I mean, why waste your time with all these other horror movies when you can remake the very first zombie movie that you named your band after? Or at least do something with some color in it. I remember him painting something on the wall on MTV once. It's a bit strange that a painter whose videos are full of neon day-glo would only make movies with an earthtoned 70s palette.

House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects are two of my favorite horror films of the last ten years. Still haven't seen Halloween yet. Anything Rob makes should be pretty cool. 8)

I think it's about time Rob Zombie was struck down by a swat team or doused in holy water.

I sat through house of 1,000 corpses and pretty much decided I could do without Rob Zombie films in my life.  Maybe I'll give them another chance and hope he's improved, but I just didn't get anything out of that movie.  Nothing really original struck me, nothing really shocked or scared me, I just kind of sat there numb while thinking "how long until the next stupid MTV camera sequence?"

Were Devil's Rejects and Halloween any better?
