I don't know, i always thought Rob Zombie was a promising director. But with the direction he's been heading, he's just starting to look more and more like a vacant chasm of unoriginality. I mean... everything he's done has just been derivative. I suppose my train of thought has looked something like this over the years:

Oh cool, that music video looks like A Clockwork Orange.
Oh neat, now that one looks like The Cabinet Of Dr. Calgari.
Uh, 1000 Corpses just kinda' looks like a cartoon crossed with every underground 70s horror film.
Hmmmm... he's just remaking Halloween.
Another remake, huh? Oh it's Conan this time... whatever~

Well, i hope it turns out great if he actually signs on. Maybe moving away from the horror genre will be a good thing for him. He could just be so close to the genre that he can't help but copy and imitate the movies he loves. A departure like that seemed to work for The Devil's Rejects.

And yeah, where the hell is Superbeasto?

PS Mods - Feel free to merge this thread.

Well, with all the Conan books that have been done (from what I hear, anyway - never read one), let's hope the movie will not be a rehash of the Ahnold Conan flicks and that it will cover new ground.

QuoteThe story opens on the battlefield where Conan is born and tells the origin story that sets the stage for what will be the first of multiple films.

Brett "I ruined the X-Men Franchise" Ratner

I'm not a fan of Ratner by any measure, but he didn't ruin the X-Men franchise. You can thank Tom Rothman, the Chairman of Fox Filmed Entertainment, for that.

The guy's such a douche.

Perfect image.

Enough with the origin stories.

RobtheBarbarian

It wasn't so much the fact that it's an origin story as much as that these jackoffs will apparently have several opportunities to break their dicks off in the ass of a franchise I enjoy very much.

Oh so we each have different reasons for sympathizing with Picard there :)

His perfect depiction of quiet desperate sorrow speaks to all of humanity.

The following lines are contractually obligated to appear:

"I AM CONAN!"

and

"WE ARE CIMMARONS!"

Okay, seriously...why?  Why make a sequel without Arnold?  Can Hollywood ever just leave well enough alone and concentrate on - oh, I don't know - something NEW!?

How is a film adaption of a book "new"?

Erm, I think he was suggesting something no one has thought of yet - a movie not based on a book or another movie.

Not based on a book or another movie?  Where the hell will the ideas come from?

Was there a Conan TV show? Or perhaps a Radio play? :)

Tripe

Wow do they do the Barbarian Show right here, in old man Smithers' barn?

Some people have yet to realize that Hollywood has never been all that original. From the beginning, it's been "adapting" stories from books and plays.

BBQ Platypus

I never said the idea for Conan itself was new.  I just said it's high time they stopped doing unnecessary shit like this.

Yes, but occasionally there used to be summer blockbusters based on scripts that people wrote themselves.  Stuff like the original Terminator and whatnot.  The last one like that I can think of is Independence Day, and that wasn't even a very original story at all.

At least adapt something that hasn't already been adapted.  Geez.
