How many RiffTrax newbies because of "Weird Al"?

Since Al's website and MySpace links right to the shop page for JP I wonder how many Al fans are buying it not knowing you have to have the DVD and sync it yourself?

Shockingly, we haven't heard of this happening yet, but I assumed we'd get a few.  It still happens every now and then.

Given the types of fans both Al and Rifftrax cater to, I wouldn't be shocked to find there was a lot of crossover already.

Eh.. they'll show eventually.
The 'confusion' of how a RiffTrax works might be slowing the new member influx flow currently..

I'm a Rifftrax newbie because of Weird Al's website, but I don't fit your second criteria since I read up on how Rifftrax works before purchasing. :)

Welcome to the boards.

See, Al's fans are smart, bet most of them are doing the research first.

There were quite a few people learning about and being pleasantly surprised by RiffTrax over on WOWAY (the World of "Weird Al" Yankovic forums), but it doesn't look like they're signing up for the Round Table.

Don't be discouraged, though. They're around.

Well some people only have time enough for one forum.  That's kinda the way I am here.  I have an account at the forrest-crow boards, but I haven't really used it since that haiku contest.  If I added another forum to my regular routine I'd have even less of a life.

One thing I thought was odd was that Al didn't ever post the news of his RiffTrax feature on his website. He usually posts that kind of stuff prominently.

torgosPizza

Uhhh... well he did post it, on his MySpace and his official site.

"AL ON RIFFTRAX!
Al joins MST3K's Mike Nelson as a celebrity guest-riffer on Rifftrax to deconstruct a little movie called Jurassic Park."

(it's the 2nd item when you click "News" on weirdal.com)

Oh, right. I just saw that. Usually things like this make Al's frontpage. I hardly ever go to the News page.

i'm a newbie to rifftrax, but i also read what to do before i synced up.
i saw the ad on another forum i hang out at, when someone posted about weird al's "amish paradise."
i synced jurassic park with my vhs tape, it worked great!

ovinophile

Another newbie here!  I found Rifftrax via Cinematic Titanic and when I saw Al as a guest riffer I knew which one I had to try.

The syncing was a little mind-boggling at first -- do I pause this one or this one to get them closer? -- but after the first few minutes it was great!  I don't think I'd even want to rewatch an older movie without Rifftrax now.

Does anyone who also liked the Jurassic Park track have a suggestion for a second one to try?

RoninFox

The problem for me is there's too many great ones to suggest.  If you want another big blockbuster movie you can go with Independence Day, any of the Star Wars prequels, the comic books ones are fun too.

An easy one to suggest is always the Star Wars Holiday Special, since you won't have to buy the dvd, it not existing and all, but that does mean you have to watch it on the computer or burn  your own dvd copy, which can be intimidating for new users.
