Okay, I've always wanted to discuss this with someone, but the problem was I was the only person I know who has read all the way through Death Rat! until I joined this board.  So I have to ask, who would you cast as the various parts in Death Rat!?

My picks:
Paul Newman as Ponty... I know he's probably a little too old, but I still think he could pull it off.

Patrick Warburton as Jack... Again probably slightly too old for the role, but you gotta admit he'd be perfect for it.

Eddie Griffin as King Leo... I think he'd be hilarious and I'll stand by that to the death.  To the death, I say!

Our Very Own Mike Nelson as Ralph... I mean, come on, he said it himself; it's the part he'd probably cast himself as.

Bill Corbett as the Governer... I'm sure he'd be more than willing to do it, and I think he would bring the right amount of zaniness to the role.

Those are the only characters I can remember the names of right now, but as I think of more, I'll update my list.
CROW:  (Sinisterly) The Secret Government Eggo Project...
--Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie

"Jason, Chess is a game of chance."
-- My friend Shawn to my friend Jason upon being defeated at a game of Chess.

Didn't Chris Tucker already play King Leo in The Fifth Element?

This seems like fun, but I'll have to go back a reread Death Rat first.

OK. Hear me out here: Matthew Broderick as Ponty. I know. I know. Just think about it. He's got the right acting style to pull it off... :^)

Yeah, but I don't want to wait until he's sixty!  I want my Death Rat! movie now!

Three words: William H. Macy. H is a word, right?

Hmm. I never did read Death Rat, based mostly on the onion AV Club's review (http://www.avclub.com/content/node/20891). Mistake?
You can't spell manslaughter without laughter.

Inspired choice, sir!!

I rented Death Rat from my local library, but didn't finish it, so my review will only be half-assed. I did like the book, but maybe I needed to finish it before coming to a conclusion. It was good, but nothing to write home about. Of course, that statement might get thrown out the window after I finish the book.  ;)
I want to read Mike's other books as well.

Shouldn't Garrison Keeler play Bromstad?

Dammit Johnny, you got my hopes up that someone had reinvigorated this thread. And, in a way, perhaps you have.

I still stand by Bill Macy as Ponty. Jon Hamm would be good as Jack. (Have you seen him on SNL? Funny guy.)

Hmm... Haven't given this much thought in a while. I'll come back to this later. And Mike should play ones of the Danes. That's easy.

I haven't read the book, but I know that if there is a movie made, it should have Bruce Campbell in it. The same could be said for any movie, really.

Can I cast my niece's rat for the role of the titular character?
Being a genocidal maniac is not one of my turn ons.

Is it weird to hear the Safety Dance in my head watching Game of Thrones?

While reading the book I actually envisioned Bruce Campbell as Jack.  As far as King Leo goes Eddie Griffin is a good option, but I was always thinking Snoop Dogg.
