I'm guessing that this thread doesn't need the spoiler tag?  Anyone reading this will have already seen the rifftrax?

Just in case...

I am happy that they (Mike, Kevin and Bill) laughed a bit after one of my riffs.  I only hope that is because they thought it was funny and not because they thought it was lame.

OK, that's it...I am faking a stomach so I can go home and watch this.....

Well, I think we hold a new record for dead space.

Yeah. I was about to say the same thing. The jokes were okay but I hope this is a one-time thing.

I loved it. There were hundreds upon hundreds of riffs, I think you two are being overly critical. This one is way up there as one of my favorites. Would definitely like to see more of these in the future.

GregMcduck

Ok, I'll be nice. Regardless of the dead space, the jokes that are in there are pretty damn funny.

Minnesota

Well, I guess you're entitled to your opinion  ::)

Personally I'm guessing most people will consider this a Top 10 Rifftrax  8)

I have to agree with Greg. There are far too many dead spots in the riffing and the lack of riffs feels very noticeable during the latter parts of the trax. I've got a few other quibbles too, but the dead air is the biggest problem in the trax.

I appreciate Chris & Co.'s efforts on it, but it felt like while they got enough of a read on the ball to make contact with it, it went foul before it left the park.

For a first time gig, I think it went decently. The gaps are a big problem true, and you can definitely see the toll taken on the script writers. But I definitely think we've all learned a few things from this, and I think if we're allowed to write another fan-riff script to be performed by Mike, Kevin and Bill, we'll do much better. From what I hear, the two major problems were the lack of jokes beyond the first half of the movie as brains turned to mush and riffing became difficult or the riffers gave up entirely, and the relatively short amount of time alloted to editing the final script together out of all the script submissions. The Harry Potter script for example was better, in part at least, because there was plenty of time to work on it "until it was deemed ready".

My first impression was, damn, this is funny stuff. The funniest jokes made me mad that I didn't think of them.

My last impression however was, what happened? I don't want to seem egotistical here, but it felt like a lot of times it must have been a choice between my joke and nothing, and they chose nothing. I specifically wrote riffs for nearly every minute of the film, and if possible every 30 seconds, so people wouldn't be bored to death. And yes, I tried to make them funny too. And yet there were full minutes of this film with no riffing, which forced me to actually watch the movie. And it made me want to kill myself. Now, I don't care if my jokes filled the gaps or someone else's did. But I would rather hear lame jokes than none at all. And I can say truthfully at least I wrote lame jokes to prevent such gaps. Yet there the gaps were, plain as day. Okay, I had a lot of riffs in this script. So I have to ask. Did you feel like I had too many, and didn't want a bunch of mine in a row? I say this not to be a meglomaniac, just because I know a lot of people said they didn't write riffs for the second half of the film, and that's where things started becoming sparse. This riff made it seem like the fans couldn't come up with enough riffs, and I personally know that not to be true. But I'm amazed even Riff Raff didn't bother to fill in the spaces. I mean... did the fact that we voted for this to be $2.99 cause them to take a dollar's worth of riffs out? I never felt the pain of this movie until the Rifftrax left me hanging. This is the WORST possible movie to be left hanging in. Every gap just left me thinking, what could have been so wrong with putting my riff in there? I riffed this, not just to make it funny, but to actually make it entertaining in any way, shape or form. And the non-riffed portions made me realize that, in fact, it's NOT entertaining.

I have a mind to do my own track that just fills in the gaps and have it be the same duration as the Rifftrax so the two could be mixed together. I mean except for the fact that people would probably hate that.

I'm not really mad at Riff Raff. More sort of baffled. But I'm furious with this movie for SUCKING so bad. I didn't ever need to know how much it did.

Anyway, now that my rant is over. My favorite part was probably Disembaudio saying, "Tonight... Hell... Free...zes o-ver!" That just cracked me the hell up. WTF! lol, etc. Best Disembaudio line I've ever heard.

Insert Coin(s) to Continue

I think we need an easier movie for the next FanTrax. Gaps won't be a problem. This movie was extremely hard to riff.

As one of the writers, I have to say after my first viewing I was a little underwhelmed: MKB have honed Rifftrax to the point where you know there'll be little dead air except when joke-specific, so the pauses caught me off guard (and like every writer who contributed, I wonder why they didn't throw even a weak one in there).  A little time has passed and now I've noticed a few things I think we need to keep in perspective:

-the time Riffraff had for editing was really tight, especially when you factor in their upcoming show

-I'm sure most of us would start zipping through scripts by the time we got to #30

-maybe we all just bit off more than we could chew:  the writers who started to wane halfway in (like me) and the editors who probably didn't realize just how massive the task would become (or how many submissions they'd get)

-and I can't help but think of the fan who didn't contribute to the writing and just wants their Rifftrax fix. Although the riff IS funny, the spaces work against momentum. Ultimately, it's kinda like a New Coke Rifftrax: tastes similar but it just ain't the same.

That said, let's look on the bright side:

-the majority of the jokes chosen are winners , and just like any Rifftrax if you don't like one quip another that you will is probably coming right up

-before the dead air becomes really noticeable, the show runs smooth and when the riffs are working really well, it sounds like it was written in the Rifftrax "voice"

-this riff does make Batman and Robin (I refuse to diginfy this "movie" with capital letters) watchable.  Notice I didn't say bearable (I don't think even Mike and the guys could do that-it's Joel Schumacher's Batman and Robin fer cripes sakes), but just making it watchable is something to be proud of and a service to mankind

...and most importantly, for those who contributed WE GOT TO WRITE A RIFFTRAX. I personally consider this one of my lifelong dreams accomplished and an opportunity I thought I'd never have, so I just want to say thanks.

I say if they ever do this again, just don't have a deadline: hone the script, get it razor sharp then submit it or even better, see if KBM will do the final polish themselves.

All in all, a noble experiment and I'm proud to be involved (I'm just curious to see how many Rifftrax Director's cuts will seep out after this...not that I'm implying anything ^cough, looks away^)
