wierd. My experience is we (my girlfriend and I) found lame jokes detract from the rifftrax experience. I guess as long as the jokes are fresh its fine, since one person's crap is another person's hilarity, but really when they start repeating jokes and variations there-of to fill space, it just gets annoying. It is particularly true when they talk straight through plot dialog.

And action sequences are an example of that. If there isn't anything particularly funny or odd, I think I'd rather watch the action :S Cheese can still be entertaining.

Now I still haven't watched this yet, probably wont until the weekend, but I'm just saying from a general standpoint.

I'm working on a large post, but for now:

Did anybody notice they DIDN'T change the intro and it still says "We make fun of them"?

Yeah well he doesn't exactly sit in the booth with them.

I wrote this in the "Rank-a Fantrax" message board but a lot of it is mirrored here so I'll just copy and paste what I said there:

Quote"7" but I almost gave it a 6.

I did think long and hard about that score, especially since this is a fan written Rifftrax. First the good. There was some great individual jokes, some really pee your pants funny one liners in there. I think some of you really came through in the funny department. Congratulations.
Now for the bad.  I do agree with what others have said that there are a lot of missed opportunities and dead space towards the end. My favorite Rifftrax usually build towards the end so that some of the best jokes are at the the climax of the movie. "Battlefield Earth" or "Independence day" for instance are hilarious at the end because the of the way they are written. One joke flows into another, the Riffers can play off each others jokes, and in general I believe makes for a better Rifftrax.
This was a series of great individual jokes, funny by themselves, but one joke had nothing to do with another (there where a couple of exceptions I realize) and therefore not as good as a regular Rifftrax. This wasn't anything that you writers did wrong, but just the nature of having 6000 individual jokes to chose from.
Maybe in the future if Rifftrax does this again it could be a collaboration between the Riffers and the fans so that Mike, Bill, and Kevin could still write there own jokes, or maybe mold a fan written riff into an even better one.

The last thing I'll say is that I will gladly pay $3.99 for a Batman & Robin Rifftrax that is written by Mike, Kevin, and Bill. I realize that his will probably not happen though.

I'd say that will posilutely not happen.

I have to say that this is an excellent Rifftrax. And I'm not saying that just because a few of our lines were used either. I'd honestly say it's hard to tell it was even fan written. I say this having had to watch this piece of crap movie a SECOND time, although the riffing sure cushioned the pain a bit. Moreso because I knew everyone had to go through the same pain in order to make fun of it. Some of you were even brave enough to watch it multiple times to write just the right jokes. For this, I'm forever grateful.

To spare the hard working forum members who comprise Riff-Raff theater, I'll not mention the obvious complaints many have voiced here (ie: I share them). I'll instead say that I'm looking forward to the improvements that will be made in future installments, and that for a first venture into the unknown territory of Mike and crew using material they didn't even write, this absolutely kicked ass. Kudos to everyone that worked so hard assembling this thing, to Mike and crew for performing it, to the genius(es) who thought it up, and to everybody that contributed!!

Well the Rifftrax wasn't perfect, but considering the source and the movie being riffed, perfection wasn't gonna happen. It all turned out darn good, though, and I got many-a-laugh.

But the chance to write for Rifftrax was honestly one of the best moments of my life. Seriously, I'm gonna be looking back on this when I'm 80 and I'm still gonna say, "That was SO COOL!" No. No. I'm going to use the word "Awesome." I think I've had my fill of ice-words. :^)

I wrote words, Mike, Kevin, and Bill themselves SAID those words. Countless others heard those words, and hopefully one or two laughed at those words. I live to spread laughter, and to get to do it in a Rifftrax is a priceless oportunity. Thank you Mike, Kevin, Bill, and everyone at Riffraff theater.

And to whomever defended my "Frozen account" joke (There MUST have been some controversy) and managed to get it into the Rifftrax, there's a special place in pun-heaven for you. :^)

I really thought what was there was very funny.  The gaps at the end were unusual compared to what we are used to.  I had to retype my file the day it was do because I accidentally saved an older version over the new one.  The few jokes I had time to retype got into the script or at least someone had another version of my jokes in the spots I would have had them in.   I hope we get to write another one, and can take a little more time with it.  It would have been nice to hear that the last 40 minutes, or whatever was really light and be given a chance to write more.  I realize this wasn't the case.

I am glad that they didn't put sub-par jokes in, and from what I've seen posted there weren't any great ones left out in favor of silence.  Some people I'm sure are very bitter that they didn't get their jokes in, even if they had one where nobody else did but I personally would hate to have the group looked down on as a whole because sub par jokes made it in.  The gaps were a problem, but an understandible problem.  It's not like we all sat in a room together and got to say "what's the best thing that could go here."

You can't force riffs just because you have time to fill.  I know from personal experience.  I wrote 95% of my hollow man riff by myself and I think that some of the jokes in it aren't nearly as good as others but even those took a lot of time to figure out.  Anybody can write riffs, not everyone can write an entire riff of a movie.  I'm not trying to say that I'm better than anyone either, but my Hollow Man riff is probably my favorite thing that I've ever done.  And I have a lot of respect for RoninFox, the Quiptracks guys, and the Riff Raff crew for doing what they do. (I haven't checked out Schriver's Riff of Khan yet but props for doing it.)   Anybody else that has a similar project, please PM me.  I want to check them out provided it doesn't cost me too much to get the movies.  And please anybody that wants to see my riff feel free to ask.  I've sent it to at least 15 states and 5 countries outside the US.

I've only heard the sample so far, but It sounds very funny!
I,too, kinda wish I could go back and re-write my script a little. Had I known the latter half of the movie was needing more material, I would have concentrated on writing for that half of the movie more. But, Lessons learned. We can take what we've learned with this Rifftrax, and if ever given the opportunity again, we can make it even better!

No. Not ever again.  Never.  No.

You had that opinion BEFORE you watched the Rifftrax "warwilf". What didn't you like about it? Or did you even bother to watch it?

Then don't buy them since you're determined to not like them anyway.

Despite Amazon.com being late, a friend of mine actually OWNS this DVD, so I called him, bribed him with beer and made him bring the DVD over for a riffing.

I would give this one a very solid 8.5/10.    I am very pleased that I purchased the riff and I have it ranked higher than some of the "official" Rifftrax and MST3K releases.

There were some very funny/clever riffs in the script that did NOT sound like fanboys and girls trying to be funny.    They sounded very natural coming out of Mike's/Kevin's/Bill's mouths.    If they did not think it was funny, they would not have recorded it as it is their reputation on the line.

EVERYONE involved in this should be proud of the accomplishment.    I have no idea how one could take dozens of scripts, thousands of jokes and filter them into one good script.

Were there some quiet spots towards the end?    Yes, the riffing was sparser towards the end compared to the beginning.    Hey, if that is the only real complaint on the riff, you should consider yourself proud.    This was better than many MST3K episodes.

For those who are upset that their riffs did not make the cut, imagine yourself in the writing room of MST3K, Rifftrax or CT.    There are paid professionals whose jokes are rejected.   That does not mean they are not funny, but the jokes were just not used.   Everyone in a creative field who puts their creativity out there for people to judge (e.g. writers, painters, etc.) probably has to bite their tongue on a daily basis against those who judge their work.   You should be proud of what you have contributed and not upset over what was not used.

Was this a learning and eye opening experience for everyone involved?    I hope so.   I don't think you will be able to listen to Rifftrax again without thinking how much effort actually goes into one of these puppies.

PSL: thank you for your comments. Very well said all around.

Imrahil: we have been in contact with "the gang" at RiffTrax in the days leading up to the release, and have discussed their opinions and feelings about the material and some other issues, yes. They've been extremely good about keeping us in the loop throughout the process, especially considering they were really under no obligation whatsoever to do so. We got a fascinating little glimpse into the behind the scenes workings of the company which, as a nerdy fanboy, was really gratifying and almost worth all the work and stress by itself. :)
