You guys do realize they filmed a lot of Avatar at the higher fps, too, just without telling everyone like Jackson did? I think it'll look fine. The Hobbit preview certainly looked spectacular when I went to see Tintin. I don't know if it was at 48fps or not, but I'm not too worried. Luckily Jackson is someone with experience in special effects, so he's another director who knows what the hell he's doing.

Very true. I'm not sure if they will use shutter glasses, but that would make sense.

Wouldn't need to use shutter glasses even if the frames alternated, the same setup with the polarized filters could be used, one eye would still get a dark frame just like with the shutter glasses (using a 2 projector system would require very accurate synchronization).  The advantage would be any crossover of the image to the other eye would not be interfering with a live image but a dark frame.  I guess the question would be if 48fps is slow enough for the brain to treat the dark frames separately, the advantage might be lost if the crossover image persisted too strongly.

i'm holding out until everything's filmed at 20 Gfps. anything else is a waste of my eyeballs.

Yes, they shoot at a higher fps a lot on action movies to help with motion blur and what not.  But that is different than shooting at 48fps with the intent of projecting at 48fps.  Avatar was never projected at 48fps, which is the new part that Peter Jackson is trying out.

The Hobbit preview you saw was not being projected at 48fps.

Here's the new poster for Guillermo del Toro's upcoming movie.

Here's a photo of del Toro taken yesterday, celebrating the end of principal photography.

Apparently, they never bothered to change the name on the clapper.

Damn, I hope Del Toro doesn't get pissed some guy named Jackson is taking all the credit for his Hobbit movie!

I particularly like how the only visible character on the poster for "The Hobbit" is most definitely the title character. Yep, he's the hobbit, all right.

This is gonna be a WAY better Guillermo Del Toro movie than Guillermo Del Toro's King Kong!

Since Mr. Caboose hasn't logged in for a couple years, I figure he won't mind if I abuse my modly power and fix the title to this thread. It's been bugging me. :^)

Why don't you just add an arm to the Venus De Milo while you're at it? :)
