Finally got my shipping confirmation, too.  The more I think about this, the more I think that EZTakes doesn't really understand customer service.  The whole waiting until they could all be shipped together thing shows a remarkable lack of service.  The people who ordered that first night should have received it long ago, even if it would have been kind of a lot more expensive for EZTakes.  Surely their shipping charge was made for immediate shipping, not only for bulk orders, since their business plan is allegedly a burn-and-ship one.  In trying to make more money off of the rush of orders for CT (when, mind you, they're already breaking records and thus making more money than they ever have before), they've made a really poor impression on their customers.  I wouldn't be surprised if Joel & co. were working with another distributor before this time next year, and it might have worked out differently had EZTakes treated their customers better.  Saving money in the short term may hurt them in the long term, returning them permanently to the smallish business they were (and, it seems, that they deserve to be).  By all accounts, they're friendly folks, but they just don't seem to quite get it.

So you thought the whole thing was handled well and EZTakes provided superior customer service?

I don't think it had anything to do with EZTakes, and all to do with Cinematic Titanic figuring out a lot of things in a short period of time.  There were a lot of rights issues, and artistic concerns that slowed the release of this new experiment.  EZTakes said the movie would ship in 10 business days, and so far they have done that.  There are rights issues that are preventing the downloading of digital versions of this movie, and International orders are restricted due to the same rights issues.  If anything you should be bitching about copyright laws in the US.  Or you could bitch about Cinematic Titanic not moving fast enough.  But doing this is pointless and makes you look like a Cry Baby.  So why don't we just wait until the movie gets to us, and then you can cry about what you don't like about the movie.   :P

If anything, I think this was a case of CT over promising and under delivering.  And for that you've got to point the finger at Joel because hey, he was the guy making the posts.  He jumped the gun a little announcing this project back in October and promising it by Christmas, considering so many details hadn't been worked out yet.  If they had kept this under wraps and never made a public announcement until, say, last week when the DVD was ready to ship, we'd all be peeing our pants in anticipation of this thing instead of bitching about it.

It's all going to be moot after next week anyway, but that's my take on it.

I agree.

The funny thing is, they could've looked a hell of a lot better if they would've simply said that they were taking pre-orders for a mid-January release date.  But they didn't so this makes them look really bad.

Wrong.  All we're doing is saying that they could've handled this a lot better.  Letting our concerns be known isn't a bad thing especially knowing that at least one CT employee is looking at our comments.  If anything, our complaints could help make things better in the future.  I personally don't think that's a bad thing.

But it says right on the website where you order that the discs will ship in 10 business days.  What part of that was a smokescreen?

Well, when Joel said that the CT episode was "On sale now" I expected to be able to download it right then.  Then I find out I could only order it on DVD.  That sucked but I figured that I'd be watching it within a week.  Not that big a deal.  Then I see that they won't be shipping them for 10 business days.  It just kept going from bad to worse.

My expectations went from thinking I'd be able to see it the day it was "released" to waiting until mid-January to see it.  There was no warning that it'd be this way beforehand.  Not until we actually went to order it was anything said about delays.  That may not be a smokescreen but they sure as hell didn't give us any warning on the CT site a few days beforehand.  That would've been nice.

Still, this is now all behind us.  As long as something like this doesn't happen again I'll be happy.  That's all.

Someone at the MST3K site posted EZ Takes's Better Business Burea profile (they are in good standing with the BBB!) and it mentions they have only 5 employees.   FIVE!

Wow, only 5 employees?    Amazing what they can offer with so few folks.   I am sure that the thousands of orders for burned DVDs must have filled them with both delight, and dread as they realized what they would have to do in only ten business days.    Especially since they could not offer the download service.

I have no idea how many DVD burners they have or how fast it is, but the shear burning time of the thousand plus orders, not to mention label making and envelop stuffing must have been staggering.   They probably had family members and friends coming in to pitch in.

We like to kid about the "delays", uncle Clem burning dvds in the basement and how much we want the DVD, but they seem to be doing a great job on this unique order.

Chaos

If nothing else, it should show you just how much of a ripoff it is to pay $30 for a new DVD, a company like EZTakes proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that you can pump them out for about 28 cents a pop, with minimal staff. The only thing REALLY standing between cheap entertainment for the masses and the current status quo are heinously outdated copyright and intellectual property laws. :)

I'm sure I am not the only person who thought that it would be 'up to 10 days' as they burnt and shipped off the orders as they got to them, not as it turned out to be, burn all the orders first and ship the off at once which is what it seems they've decided to do.

Oh and has anyone identified the fonts yet? I have 2 candidates for Cinematic but haven't had much other luck so far with the other 2.
