QuoteShockTillYouDrop is reporting that author Richard Matheson has sold the rights to the "I Am Legend" sequel. Matheson wrote the original 1954 novel upon which Will Smith starrer is based on.

The site adds that this does not mean that a sequel is in the works, it simply shows that Warner Bros is securing the rights if they chose to proceed with another installment. If the studio decides to make the film, it would be the first time for the "I Am Legend" material to get a sequel. Two previous films, "The Last Man on Earth" and "The Omega Man," which were both based on Matheson's work, did not get any more installments.

"I Am Legend" hit theaters on December 14th, and quickly set a December record by bringing in $77 million during its domestic opening weekend. At this point, the new film has earned over $335 million in worldwide ticket sales.

That's never stopped a Sci-Fi movie from getting made before.

Indeed.  I am Legend 2 will probably take place at the same time as the first film but with another guy in a different city.  Or it'll take place after the events of the first film and the main character will be

Either way the sequel is unnecessary.
Imrahil: Don't care about Riding with Death.

Bob: Turkey.

Action Batch:  Woah, let's all mellow out and rap about this.

I guess Matheson has to think about his old age and what he can leave to his family but....

Maybe he's thinking that they'll never come up with an idea good enough to make - and if they want to pay him for nothing, what the hell?

Sweet mother of pearl, I hope not. That "God loves us!" lady and her little brat was by far the worst part in the entire movie, putting even the "Happy-Happy Survivor Colony" at the end to shame.

If they absolutely HAVE to do a sequel, it should be 90 minutes of Akiva Goldsman and Francis Lawrence apologizing profusely on-camera.

Ah, so they can call it "No, I am Legend." Or possibly "I am Legend, too."
Followed by the inevitable return of Will Smith's character in the third installment, "Nuh-uh, I am Still Legend."

Insert Coin(s) to Continue

Or perhaps they could take it to the next level:

I Am Ancient Mythology
I Am Greek God-like
I Have Millions of Followers Who Would Blindly Throw Their Lives Away for Me

This is one movie that does need a sequel. The only thing I'd like to see from it is another GOOD remake. Remake the same movie. Again. And do it right this time.

actually Meet the Spartans is the sequel to Epic movie. I offer another quote.
QuoteMeet the Spartans is a sequel to 2007's Epic Movie set for release on January 25, 2008. It was originally titled Epic Movie 2. The name was changed, possibly due to Epic Movie receiving poor reviews.
