same folks tend to want skits like we saw in MST Host Segments on in the FilmCrew.

Well they are out of luck aren't they.

So much hate in the world, do we really need to get upset over the stuff we love?

Welcome to the internets!

Damn this series of tubes!

Truely there's room on my shelves and hard drive for all manner of riffing.  There's a reason I buy all the Rhino dvd sets no matter if they're all Joel or all Mike or a mix, they're both funny.  Hopefully CT will be funny too (the preview I saw looks hopeful and I'm eagerly awaiting my dvd in the mail).

I don't see anyone fighting dirty here except for the normal ranks of trolls and complainers, nothing to really do about that except ignore it.

Either way, its inevitable to have CT vs RiffTrax wars now. Its just a given.

No, that would denote there would be people on the other side of the argument fighting back. As of right now, I haven't really seen anyone saying "Rifftrax rules, down with CT!"

Calling it a war would be a misnomer, it's more like just a bunch of irrational people with a skewed point of view.

Sad isn't it that the people who are supposed to "get it" just don't...

I'm with you there.  It's interesting how we're all into MST3K-style humor, yet when Bill posts a little joke to CT the MST3K Discussion Board pisses their pants over it.

The funniest thing about this whole uproar is that Bill's post isn't derogatory at all.  I could see them getting pissed if Bill posted something like "Fuck you Joel Hodgeson!" in his blog.  But getting upset over what's clearly a joke is more than a little sad.
Imrahil: Don't care about Riding with Death.

Bob: Turkey.

Action Batch:  Woah, let's all mellow out and rap about this.

I remember when I pointed out a little joke at Mike's expense in J. E. Weinstein's interview on the CT site.  I mentioned right off the bat it seemed like a light-hearted jab and nothing to take seriously.  Everyone who commented here agreed with me.  Funny how it's not as clear to some people when the obvious light hearted joke goes in the other direction.

And we (those of us who like both CT and RiffTrax) know that the most that will ever come of this amongst the riffers is just good natured ribbing. They all have too much respect for each other to let it come down to petty fights.
But I guess if there wasn't good gossip to go around then there wouldn't be anything good to talk about, right?  ;) Just joking.

And lets face it, Joel is a smart guy. In this niche market he's recognized the fact that there is still a niche that needs to be filled: Riffing old 'B' movies. God bless him for that.

Seriously, I bet there could be some fun to be had between CT and RiffTrax, kind of like the choreography we see in "professional" wrestling. But its too bad some fans need to take it seriously...just like in "professional" wrestling   :D

It's really not the "entire MST3k board" though is it? It's perhaps one or two people who are posting long and loud enough that it skews the entire perception of the forum.  There's plenty of people in the thread that's linked who are shouting down the silly people who don't get it too.

RoninFox

As a fan of wrestling myself, yeah some people do take it too seriously, but there's smart fans out there too.  (And I'm not talking about "Smart" in wrestling lingo which is supposed to mean "smart to the ways of the business" but usually means "annoying blogger")  I really was hoping for a "fun" rivalry to start up like Mike has hinted about, but if more people take it to this extreme it may be more trouble than it's worth.  Luckily there does seem to be voices of reason scattered in between the shouting.

No, it's definitely not everybody -- not by a long shot -- but the ones who do it are just really obnoxious.  Maybe I'm just spoiled by the relative open-mindedness of the RiffTrax crowd.  I mean, if you're here, you're kind of open-minded by default when it comes to riffing, because Mike's done all kinds of different movies and had on several different kinds of guest riffers.  So in a larger and more diverse community, there are bound to be some who don't care for RiffTrax.

I just don't get it.  It's all funny.  I prefer Mike to Joel, and Sci-Fi to Comedy Central (and, extrapolating, probably RiffTrax to CT), but I love it all nonetheless.  It's still riffing, and it's still funny.  And I guess even if Joel/Comedy Central/CT is your preference, why does it also have to become a good vs. evil thing?  Why look for ill will when there is none?  With a select few, Mike and co. seem to be guilty until proven innocent.

But you're right, it is just a few.

I just hate the people who make up random shit to complain about.

In the last week there has been

The RiffTrax Crew have really let themselves go. (Physically)
The same person then dug up the old too much pop culture thread just make it clear there is too much pop culture in RiffTrax.

RiffTrax always compare things to Food.

RiffTrax "almost entirely" selects it's film based on when next Tuesdays new releases are.

The RiffTrax crew focus on quanitity not quality since you can't make your own DVDs people will just buy them regardless.

torgosPizza

In the Internet business, this is what we call a "vocal minority." The number of complainers is always inversely proportional to the loudness and visibility of the complaint. (And, as such, the validity of the complaint - usually.)

in what regard?  They look as fit to me as in the MST days, what little I saw of the real Bill and Kevin in the MST days anyway.

So this person is complaining about the underlying premise of pretty much all riffing ever?

Uh, okay.  Never really noticed this.  Perhaps food comes up because it's something everyone can relate to and understand, but I wouldn't say it comes up 'always' there are probably a few movies with no food comments at all.  Then again, who even cares.  Seems like half of Weird Al's songs are about food, especially his early stuff, but that doesn't mean it's not funny.

Yeah, you know that one time they picked a movie on it's release date...there've only been two Rifftrax right?  50% would kinda qualify as "almost entirely" right?

I'm not sure I even understand the slightest bit what this complaint means.

I think that last one means that Rifftrax selects movies based on availability of the DVD rather than whether the movie deserves a riffing or not.

Could be wrong though.

MrTorso

I think that complaint was about the fact that since they don't have to license movies and release them they can crank out the mp3s willy-nilly.

Ah, so because they can make Rifftrax faster and cheaper than making their own dvd, that's worth complaining about?

Well makes as much sense as the rest of the complaints I guess
