the prequels would have been good if George hadn't written them...

I mean look at his original plan in Return of the Jedi, it would have turned Luke to the Dark Side if he had succeeded in killing Darth Vader, so the Emperor doesn't mind if he loses one and gains another.

But Vader and the Emperor had been talking about this since the middle of ESB.

And when Vader took Luke to see the Emperor, Vader knew that he'd have to defend the Emperor against Luke.....in essence sacrifice himself for the guy who he was trying to get Luke to help him get rid of...

So, Vader's so Force-whipped that he'd do anything the Emperor said?

Thus we find the connection between the Darth Vader ot the OT and that snotty, little creep, Anakin from the Prequels?

Vader also attempted in ESB to tempt Luke into destroying the Emperor and joining together to rule.  You could say that both Vader and Palpatine saw Luke as the logical next apprentice, and both wanted to destroy the other in order to hold the position of Master when Luke was turned.
And in the end, Vader just lay back and "thought of England" while he got screwed?  He wanted Luke to help him kill the Emperor....their lightsabres were inches away from doing just that....

Can't refute that.

Nor can I...

I'll have to say that I agree with the title of this thread......though I'd like to tack on the predicate "...and if nobody else had written them, either."

The only thing wrong with the prequels is EVERYTHING.
Correction: the coat hanger should be upside down.

This is true. You know I truly believe the whole idea of prequels is kind of retarded to begin with. There is a certain air of mystery and an element that should be left unseen when it comes to the past. I do think the prequels did have potential and definitely could have been great. We will never know though what could have been. Does anybody know how we can get that thingy they used on Sliders to travel to alternate universes? Maybe one of the alternate universe Star Wars prequel series are actually great.

Ken Burns loves the prequels.

Ken Burns also loves anyone who can give great amounts of money to PBS so he can keep making his documentaries.

Not that the two things are necessarily connected....

Well, that just retroactively ruined The Civil War for me.  And now I want to kick Buck O'Neil, too.  And he's dead!

Thanks a lot, Bratpop.  And a Merry Christmas to you, too.

I just wish the prequels had never been made. Now nobody will every gasp like I did in Empire Strikes Back when Darth Vader said, "No Luke, I am your father." All anybody has to do is watch any of the prequels...the magic is gone.

And because of the prequels Darth Vader is no longer the coolest villain ever...All I can see is a whiny angst-ridden teenager.

The last half of RotJ screwed him up too as a great villian.

And I don't see angst in Anakin in the last two Prequels.  I just see a totally self-absorbed, morally-challenged brat - who was hidden pretty well in the kid we met in Phantom Empire.

So not only was Darth Vader a whiny little pussy (who supposedly cared about his Mom and yet didn't have a clue what she'd been up to for ten years) - evidently Obi Wan was a lousy surrogate father.

Brilliantly worded.

I am sure somebody has brought this up before many, many times in other forums besides this one, but hear me out.
I just think that the Prequels take place in an alternate reality. I think the proof lies in many key points: 1) Midichlorians - In empire strikes back, Yoda says "LIFE creates it"(meaning the force), it surrounds us, and binds us." He didn't say anything no about midichlorians. 2) Leia says she remembers her mother, who died when she was very young, yet obviously Padme died at the end of Revenge of the Sith. 3) Only 20 years pass between the end of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. At the end of Revenge of the sith, Obi Wan appears to be no older than 35 years old, yet in A New Hope, Obi-Wan appears to be 70-something. 4) How come Obi-Wan never mentioned Qui-Gonn? He said that Yoda trained him, not Qui-Gonn.
Based on these inconsistencies, I would like to submit my bold conclusion that the Prequels take place in a timeline that is completely separate from episodes IV, V and VI. Maybe I am just saying this only to make myself feel better, but, eh whatever.

The prequels should have been left to Speilberg and Genndy Tartakofsky (s/p). And Lucas should have stuck with the original script of Episode One, in which Obi-Wan was working alone for the first half of the movie, and he discovered Anakin instead of Qui-Gon (who doesn't show up until the last half).

And as far as Vader is concerned in RotJ: He went from Dark Lord to a "Yes" Man. Wimp.

I hate it when somebody does a bloody cartoon and everybody thinks they're the cat's pajamas. Just because they're one of two people who have done a franchise doesn't mean they're the best person for the job. This argument happens daily regarding Bruce Timm. Just because he did the Justice League cartoons, people think he should write and direct everything related to DC. Well, his character designs are as ill-fitting as Gendy's were for Star Wars, and I don't think either of them are great writers. That crap with Anakin growing tattoos on his arm was ridiculous. It was like they took a scrapped Ewok TV movie script and made it even stupider.

Pak-Man

I'm going to take the middle road on that one. I like Gendy. He knows how to stick action in a cartoon, and really, what we were all hungry for after the first 2 prequels was Star Wars action. Gendy delivered. What he didn't do, really, was further the plot all that much or add any new character development. There was very little plot at all in the Clone Wars cartoons. I've noticed, in his action serieses(?) he likes to cut to the chase and dispense with the formalities and get down to the brawl (See Korgoth, Samurai Jack). If he were to take on an actual SW movie, we'd be exhausted well before the first hour is through. I don't see it happening. I DO hope he gets to guest-direct the new CGI series when  it starts coming out. :^)

He also was heavily involved in the 90's Batman Animated series, which is just about one of the greatest things ever to be produced.

Not saying he's responsible for everything that was great about it or that he should "write and direct everything" but it does speak to his talent.

I do have to say that the Clone Wars series was better than just about anything the prequel movies churned out.
