if scrooged counts then that is definatly my favorite.  i guess my second would be a tie.  the muppet christmas carol and mr. magoo's christmas carol.

Zardoz!

For me it's a tie between the version with George C. Scott and the musical version of scrooge with albery finney and alec guiness.

Definitely, the Muppets Christmas Carol is my favorite of the adaptations. And what are you guys talking about "When Love is Gone" not being on the DVD. My version has it. I know, because I fast forward through the stupid thing every time.

I remember seeing years ago an adaptation that really impressed me. The primary thing I remember about it ws that at one point, Scrooge goes to hell, and is put in a freezing office. The devil tells him he'll be the only one in Hell complaining about the cold. Which version was this, does anybody know?

My father in law loves A Christmas Carol in all its forms but he really likes the Disney one

I don't think anyone has even mentioned my two favs.

Okay it's a tossup between a very old one I don't think you can find in print anymore (although it is public domain now)  It's called Scrooge and it has Sir Seymour Hicks in it.  It was made in 1935.  You can get info on it here  http://imdb.com/title/tt0026972/

And you can download it here:

I gave more than one link, because some people prefer one file type over another, and some are better quality than others.

But the other one I love is the 1970 version with Albert Finney and Alec Guiness.  Alec Guinnes is my view is the definitive Marley, even to the phantasmical way he walks into the room.  Plus the seemless way the doorknocker becomes Guiness' face.  It's my favorite part of the movie.

It's a triumph in pre-CGI special effects.

BTW, I've not seen in it in "goofs" at imdb.com, but if you will watch the scene where Scrooge's coffin is brought out and they start to sing "Thank you Very Much" Albert Finney looks down and smiles, and points to the snow he accidentally moved off the railing, as he is supposed to be a shadow, and not able to do that.  But everyone is too busy dancing to even notice what Finney is doing, because they aren't supposed to "see" him anyway.  So he shrugs and goes on with his part.  No kidding, watch for it.
Are you my virgins?  I hope not!

The Mickey Mouse one and the Muppets one. Goofy makes one fantastic Marley.  ;D I don't think I ever actually saw any of the live-action/non-talking-animals versions. Love the book though.

Comparative Marley Shopping (I'm using the easiest identifiers not necessarily who's playing Marley)

Disney

I couldn't find the scene isolated

Henson

Guinness

Alastair Sim

I'll post more if I find them.

I think the last Marley is Michael Hordern, Sim is playing Scrooge :)

Tripe

I think you're right, that's why I have that note in the brackets.

Horden was always a reliable creaky voiced buffer even back then :)

This thread makes me feel like singing!  I once got in a bit of a quarrel with a lameass clerk at the local Hollywood rental place because he said a "musical version of the Christmas Carol doesn't exist"... and I had to set him straight.
