I don't know if anyone has done this yet, but If someone started a Rifftrax Trading topic or something we could see who needs a copy.

I just got the dvd of the version they riffed, with crawl and commercials.  And i have no problem sending a few copies out.

if it's not the google video sourced version I'll gladly take a copy too, more than willing to do blanks+postage since you didn't mention it either...

I hate to belabor the point, but this is one of the stupidest things ever put to video.

I mean, my god.  :gouge:

I realize this is a little late, but I would be willing to send out a few DVD's as well (seeing as how I just figured it out) so PM me with your address, forum name, favorite director and funny fact about you, I'll pay postage and everything.

That was damn fast! All five copies are now spoken for. I'm sorry, Moyer, but I replied to all the emails to me before I saw your message. I am sure that one of the five will help you out once they get their discs, which should be very soon. I am going to get these out in the next couple days so as many people can have it before/as the RiffTrax hits as is possible.

On that note, the five forum members you can pester when they get their discs are:
David
AmandaGal
PSLOwner
MrTorso
PlayMSTie
- turns out she cannot make DVD copies. whoops! See her post below

They all are (or at least they seem to be on the internet) fine people willing to help out fellow forum members.

A minor note is that the DVD I have does not feature the crawl that whoever uploaded it to Google Video stuck on it, but I kind of doubt they'd be riffing a fanmade crawl anyway.

Shoot, I might have missed the boat on this one. Been away from the forums for a couple of days :-[ If anybody can send me a copy of this I'd be most appreciative. I'd even paypal you the postage in advance. Here's my little dilemma about using the Google video source. I make my own Rifftrax DVD's using a program called Sony  Vegas. Me and my friends then watch them on a big screen 1080p HDTV using a DVD upscaler (Technobabble-arrific!) Usually things turn out pretty well.
However, a 320x240 video source of an 1978 TV show, that itself is probably an umpteenth generation VHS copy of, no matter what "Mad DVD Authoring Skills" I might have and even using a Kick-ass Upscaler, blown up to a 1920x1080 resolution, looks like a blurry, pixelated mess.
I downloaded the Google source, converted it to a 640x480 DVD compliant MPEG-2 video file, played it through the DVD upscaler, and it was barely watchable (I know, I know, it was never ever "Watchable"). It does, as others have reported, look just fine on a SDTV. I might have to cart my old CRT TV out to the living room if all else fails.
So the better the original video source is the better it ends up being on the HDTV. ReverendBeastly's DVD sounds like the best I might hope for with a 1978 TV show. I'd be more than happy to make copies and send them out to people who wanted them if I could get a copy myself.

I thought I would add, the DVD version on piratebay.org does not work.  All the commercials are edited out.

So this riff has brought me out of lurker status, hat in hand wondering if anyone would be willing to help me get a copy on DVD.  I'll glady pay forward the good deed and send out copies to others, pay postage or whatever wackiness you may otherwise request.  The copy I have is missing commercials and I dread missing jokes at the expense of Madison Avenue of the 70s.

Off I go to read more thoroughly through the thread to see if any are available...

Is someone going to offer a service for people who will pay to get RID of the movie after they watch it?

I decided to read the Wikipedia entry on t he special. I think I may have stumbled on the nerdiest paragraphs in the universe:

QuoteThe Star Wars Holiday Special is technically in the Star Wars canon, which means that the events depicted are part of the greater continuity that includes the other films, novels, comic books, video games, etc. Generally, it falls in the C-Canon in the overall Star Wars continuity.

According to Leland Chee, the keeper of The Holocron, an internal Star Wars continuity database at Lucasfilm (which contains at least 28 individual entries relating to elements of the Holiday Special), most elements from the movie are considered canon. However, there are specific rules as to what is what. First off, any element from the Holiday Special that is referenced in another work is considered C-Canon (such as Life Day, Chewbacca's family, etc.). Any element from the Holiday Special that is not referenced in other works is considered S-Canon, which means that it's canon, and it "happened," but its canonicity is not set in stone, so to speak. The only element from the Holiday Special that is not considered canon (meaning it is N-Canon) is its claim that Chief Bast survived the destruction of the first Death Star from A New Hope. Although the Holiday Special never specifically mentions that the person conversing with Darth Vader is Bast, it is generally implied. However, the Star Wars Encyclopedia, by Steve Sansweet, which is considered C-Canon (which would be higher than the at-the-time S-level canon issue with Bast), says that Bast died in the Death Star's explosion. This makes Bast's appearance in the Holiday Special confirmed to not be canon. It is not known exactly who the man in the Holiday Special talking to Vader was. However, it has been speculated that it may have simply been a person looking similar to Bast, or even a clone of him.

The fact that people actually put that much serious thought into a piece of crap that Lucas would gladly burn away from all existence if he had the chance after the fact is frightening.

I really think it would make sense to just hold off for a day or 2, confirm that the DVD version works (and perhaps if one is better than the other) and then perhaps organize a DVD mailing Tree in the SWHS forum.
