Getting rid of Avatars

Is there any support here to getting rid of avatars?  When I go through the forums and I see two sentences worth of text and then 15 different big ass flashing avatars it makes it extremely difficult and annoying to figure out what's going on.  It looks like visual diarrhea when you look around here and I would like to get rid of them.

I would love to become more involved with the forums but having so much stuff going on drives me away from participating and I believe it drives the newcomer, and average user away as well.

Curious to what everybody thinks.

Well I admit it does seem a bit cluttered, but hey, it's a forum.

Gotta keep it lively!

You mean the pictures in the bottom of posts? I guess they can be a little annoying, but I've adblocked a lot of them to save myself loading times.  :)

As for the avatars on the side of the forum: Getting rid of them? Heck no! They give other forumites a sense of identity.  Honestly, people without avatars sort of blend together for me.  Sorry :)

Do you work at a box factory in Springfield?

just joking...  ;)

Listen, I have no problem with people expressing themselves etc., and the pictures under the name arent' too bad, but I just think huge blinking signatures ruins the look of the boards.  I'm glad I can turn it off, thanks for the tip on that, its just I don't think it helps keep newcomers on or around the boards.

But I got what I needed.   :rimshot:

He must be refering to my avatar.  I had no idea it bothered anyone.  I was just trying to get in the holiday season but I could make a different one if more people object to it.

I wouldn't take it personally, it could be anyone's (well, mine is pretty small).

But it doesn't matter, because the beauty of the system allows individuals to customize their view settings, thus making everyone happy.   :)

seriously though, where does this guy surf the internet at?  My hometown paper is full of flashing ads and flash video, and the news is the stuff that isn't moving.  You just train your brain to look for what you want, or you get ad blockers and adjust settings.

You do realise that at times you've had up to 3 megs of images in your sig and avatar? it's sitting at about 1 meg at the moment, but it doesn't take too many people to do that and for someone on dial up these pages would take forever to load.

Why are they on dial-up though when this whole site is dedicated to a sort-of cutting edge use of the internet.  Get high-speed!  Your getting ripped off.
