Which is a shame because Watanabe is an impressive actor.  Loved him in Memoirs of a Geisha - a beautiful looking movie with something missing.

Japanese Actresses?

I actually really wanted to see this movie.  Not really because of the story or anything, but from what I saw of the previews the cinematography looked absolutely gorgeous...  is it worth it?

It is a beautiful movie, visually.  It just leaves a lot of things unexplained about their lives.  For instance, it's inferred that all Geisha have an "older sister" - and established Geisha who takes them under their wing when they're a novice and introduces them to the business.  And yet, Hausumomo (the Geisha at the house Chiyo is sold to as a child) doesn't.  And yet the film makes it sound like everyone toes the line and follows the rules or they're shamed forever....

QuoteJapanese actresses?

The producers say they tried to get Japanese actresses.  Very few applied.

Besides, Anthony Quinn was Mexican.  What role is he best known for?  A Greek.  He's played Italians...you name it. The majority of the leads of Flower Drum Song were Japanese - even though the story was about Chinese immigrants.

If Caucasian actors can play different nationalities that are Caucasian, why can't an Asian play all sorts of Asians?

...Seriously?  I always thought he was Greek.  It always makes my day to find out things like this I didn't know.  If I'd seen him playing the part of a Mexican in a movie I probably would have laughed at the casting.  I'm an idiot.

Freakin' awesome!

Monkey_Boy

I was completely surprised about "Apocalypto". I was expecting a "rainforest story" similar to "The Emerald Forest", but this sucker was ACTION PACKED!!!!
"How would I go about creating a half-man, half-monkey-type creature?"
"I'm sorry, that would be playing God."
"God shmod! I want my monkey-man!"

Same here. I went in expecting a decently entertaining movie, but it ended up being one of the best movies I'd ever seen.
I am Ambassador Phantom, from the planet Krankor! I am rapidly approaching your planet... in the warship, which you have just seen. I will arrive tomorrow night at precisely eight o'clock. At that time I shall make my wishes known to you. You will obey them... or die! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA!
