So I went and saw the Mist on Wednesday and I have seriously mixed feelings about it.  I enjoyed the story a great deal and I felt that the film was an almost perfect adaptation of the story...almost.  The movie goes on about 5 minutes after the story ends and I absolutely hated the direction that Frank Darabont took it.  I typically don't care if movies follow the source material, hell I enjoy a great number of Stephen King movies even though they are almost all crap.  So here was my problem with the ending...WARNING MAJOR SPOILERS

What spoilers? I don't see anything.

I think the trailer gives to much away. I personally would have stopped things at the "THUMP THUMP THUMP" noises. Much more suspenseful and intriguing. I mean, the whole point of having rollin ominous mist is to prey upon fear of the unknown.

I agree that would have made for a movie that I enjoyed...rather than I movie I came out of slightly irritated.

I thought the film was pretty bad. It seemed too realistic and unrealistic in all the ways that make for bad film. It has all the normal problems of a Stephen King film- Bad story to film time compression/decompression, the frustration inability to see inside a charicter's head, where most of his stories take place anyway, and cheezy special effects. And yeah, the ending was a cross between Twilight Zone, Depression, and Stupidity.

It's watchable, but not particularily enjoyable.

Dim of the Yard

I thought, all things considered, that it was a decent movie.  I always thought that Stephen King's novellas were more film-worthy than his full-length novels, and this was no exception, in my opinion.*  The movie isn't in the "enjoyable" category, but it was engaging, it evoked the right emotions (most of the time, anyway), and I could feasibly see myself watching this movie again, without the intentions of mocking it the whole way through.

It helped that I sat in with a receptive crowd.  There were a few buttheads who talked during the movie at some points, sure, but I fit into that category, as well, so I'm not allowed to complain.  There was one woman who visibly cried, "Oh my GOD!" after a long, loud gasp during one of the more action-packed parts of the movie, and the entire audience burst into applause at one part towards the end of the film.  That really enhanced the movie-going experience for me, and made me glad that I went out to see it.

*Not to take away from the good films that are based on his longer works, like The Shining or Misery.

Also, the film mixed Laurie Holden's cleavage with a dead menopausal woman. Pretty unforgivable.

Warning...question about major spoilers (because you can't ruin it for me, I never intended on seeing it)
