Well I don't think people would be too keen on forum based fan riffs if it meant that the movie was automatically excluded from being considered by Mike and Co. Plus an actual date for release of it was only actually announced a few days ago, so it's not like anyone was actually able to plan one to come out near the other.

Fair enough. But, by the same token, I'd hate to think that we "can't" riff a particular movie just because RiffTrax "might" release one at some point. That would take quite a gigantic pile of movies off of our potential list.

Considering what RiffTrax is planning to do with fan riffs, it would have at least been nice to have a heads up about this one the last time we were speaking about it with the staff. It's not like Chris would have blabbed or anything. We can be discreet, honest! :)

Anyone know if there is a difference between the Sorcerer's Stone (USA) DVD and the Philosopher's Stone (UK, Canada) DVD?
I'm pretty sure the only difference is the title, but just want to be sure. Don't want to find out the hard way like with Fantastic 4
Read 2 posts up.

I have both on my shelf.  There is a time difference.  The PAL version is 2:26:07 while the NTSC is 2:32:12.  Not sure yet what was cut.  In addition to that, they also used alternate takes any time someone said "Philosopher's Stone" or "Sorcerer's Stone" on screen.  Not sure if that adds to the time differences at all.  I haven't examined them close enough to tell you all the precise differences.

That's certainly well within the time difference from just the NTSC/PAL conversion, so hopefully that's all it is, but I will be comparing the 2 anyway to see if there is any differences that I can detect that would significantly effect the timing of the riffs.

I think it will be ok. But I might still pick up a US version just to be safe.

I think the biggest problem with the conflict is the movie that the roundtable picked.  I think you could ask every forum member a yes or no question as to whether or not Mike would get to Harry Potter at some point and the answer would be yes.  With 7 huge films making millions of dollars a rifftrax was inevitible.   And from doing a riff myself, there were times when it felt like I'd never get it finished and who knows, the roundtable riff could have fizzled out entirely.  I'd just be glad you got yours done before the actual riff came out.  If I'd heard that Mike was doing the movie I'd riffed on next,  I think I would have posted the whole script just to prove what I'd thought of ahead of time.  I think if a group effort is made on future riffs it should be a less obvious choice for a movie.  Tron might be on the right track but I certainly wouldn't do anything like "Batman & Robin."  There are plenty of awful second tier movies that aren't obvious choices.  There are way more Blockbusters on the Rifftrax shelves than "Dr. Moreau's."  It may take a few bucks and 10 minutes to dig through the $5.50 bin at Wal-mart to get a movie that a lot of people can collaborate on, but I think it will be more than worth it.

And don't forget that Harry Potter has appeared on the polls on the front page.  I think if a movie is on the polls, Mike is at least considering doing it.  (still waiting to see what he would do with Fight Club).  Just my take.

Heh.... yeah, I remember when that happened. I had to use all the willpower in the world to not fix the vote against it. :D

Well Raven, that's certainly true. And perhaps that is one of the dangers of using a polling system to determine what movie the Round Table is going to do. The impression I got at the time was that people were voting to do Harry Potter, because they had requested it from RiffTrax, and it hadn't happened yet, so they wanted to take it on - it was certainly an excellent choice, there was a lot of great material to work with. Maybe we will just have to learn a lesson from choosing a movie that had been oft-requested but not as yet delivered, and be a little more careful in our choices going forward.

Then again, maybe it won't really make too much of a difference one way or another... I guess it just depends on how well our version is received come Sunday. I don't think there is REALLY too much of a problem with us both doing the same movie, provided that we aren't accused of stealing jokes or something. And considering the fact that both the script and the 40 minute sample were posted on this forum well over a month ago, I don't see that being a problem. :)

The other thing the Fan Riffers could do, is not to announce their fan-rifftrax until its released...or maybe a week before its released. That way if you realize you are about to release the same movie around the same time, it will give you an opportunity to 're-group' for a different strategy.

I wasn't saying that the 2 of them being released was a problem, just that Mike's version could have been released earlier than it was.  The poll Junkyard started was posted on the first week of July and the riffs out the 27th of november.  That was almost 5 months for Mike to hit a fairly obvious target.  I'm just glad you were this close to being finished.  It would have really sucked if everyone had taken the time to watch the movie and wrote there scripts to have Mike release his the end of September.   That's all.

Chaos

Yeah, that would have sucked.

Did the movie show up in a poll earlier than the one from about a month ago? I don't remember seeing it on any front page polls before that, but then again I've only been a forum member here since June.

Oh, I wasn't talking specifically about the poll.  I think you are right about that.  Just ment the "obvious target" thing.

Junkyard

Course, if they do Tron next, it's ON.

Darth Geek

The fanriff of Potter is going to be released? Where do I find out about where to get it? Sorry for being ignorant of this. I saw the fanriff forum, but didn't feel like wading through all 26 pages.

ChrisHanel

Don't worry, I'll start a new thread in the General Forum when we give out the download link on Sunday... I'm guessing in the late afternoon.

the long undertow

I can't help but think that the fan riff and the official riff coming at the same time is a good thing.  People that make their own dvd could put both tracks on one dvd and people that don't will have the movie handy so they can watch both if they choose.

I don't think you guys will get any less attention as a result.  If anything, you'll get more.

If they do Tron, then I finally have a reason to get it! But, I'm hoping for The Chronicles of Narnia {Extended Eidtion}, Superman IV and Superman Returns! Still, I'm hoping to get HPatSS Rifftrax, I have the movie on VHS! Hoping to rent it on DVD!
