Doctor Who?

Bad movies that where a bad idea to begin with but were given millions that could have gone towards  making a better movie anyway(I.E Batman and Robin,Armegedon,Ect.),or bad movies that seemed to be a good idea but somehow turned out bad(E.I A.I,Superman IV)

For me it's the latter.  I can allways laugh at a movie that was bad to begin with but movies that could have been good just make me sad.

The first type. People fail, and that can be forgiven. Making movies can be complex. But if you don't even try? If it's just being made to feed to cattle like populace... that ENRAGES ME.

Both are the reason this site exists. :^)

The latter. Which made me start a discussion with Pak the other day.....

Why are mostly movies that were initially good getting remade? Doesn't it make more sense to take a movie that had a good premise but wound up bad because of a failing element and correct the mistakes to make it good? I mean.....if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I don't understand remakes. Why are they remaking The Birds? It was perfect as is. To remake it is to suggest that Hitchcock failed on some level. He wasn't perfect, but he was a master director who's studied in film school, for crying out loud. There was no reason to remake Halloween either. Honestly. Or Wicker Man. If the originals are fine, leave it alone!! Why does everything already good have to be "updated"? Part of the charm of the movie is the time period it was made in.

However, there are thousands upon thousands of bad movies gathering dust on the shelves. Why don't producers pull one, research it to find out why it turned out bad, and remake it to make it better??!! Why is all this untapped material sitting around while only the good stuff is getting remade into movies that usually turn out inferior anyway?

I guess I'll never understand the film industry.

Doctor Who?

Wait they are remaking the Birds!

Come on!

Psycho was bad enough!

No one should have to live through this happening twice in there life time.

Poor, poor Tyrant.
Okay, you'll need to sit down for this.
Here, have some tea.
All right.
Tyrant, Hollywood doesn't want to make good movies. It just wants to make movies that will make money. They're remaking all these films because they have name recognition, and thus an audience. They would hump Hitchcock's corpse, literally as easily as metaphorically, for money. Hell, they'd likely hump their grandmothers's corpses for money.
I'm sorry you had to hear this from me.

(By the way, I'm not really trying to be condisending. I know you're not that naive.)

*sob* I know! I know!!! I guess I'm just an idealist!!! I keep trying to tell myself that movies are made for the sake of art, but it keeps not happening unless it's a weird independant film that's boring, is in another language and makes no sense!! *sob*

But thanks for the tea, Junkyard.  :)

Personally, I think a lot of filmmakers would resent the implication that they "just didn't try" to make a film.  Someone once said "It's hard to make a good film and it's hard to make a bad film."  The point is, it's hard to make a film, period.  And films where everyone isn't bringing their "A" game to the table are probably harder to work on for some people, especially if those people really do want to make a good film.  Anyway, it's statistically improbable for any filmmaker to hit a home run with every swing of the bat.  And it's just as improbable for any filmmaker to strike out every time, too.  Even Ed Wood, if he never had any real hits, he definitely had one or two foul tips.

You make a good point, but here I'm thinking of things like "Epic Movie."

Doctor Who?

If I am forced to sit through another Epic,or scary movie I promise I will kill everyone in the room.

Hollywood should be forced by law to change their name to $oll$ood.

Could I get a pronunciation on that?    :D

I was always curious, when some of these movies are being made, do you think anyone ever steps back and says "Man, this is a bad movie".  Not that they would necessarily do anything about it, because again of the money issue, but just to acknowledge the fact.

Doctor Who?

To pronounce it corectly I would have to rip out your tung.

I think they do. They did with the Island of Dr.Moreau. I'm continually amazed that with his clout and reputation, Marlon Brando didn't just violate his contract and walk off the set.
