Two of the five are WGA members (Josh for sure maybe Frank?) and they were on strike from November to whenever. If they had Oozing Skull already written at the start of the strike and the punch ups were done by the three non-members so they could shoot, that could account for the delay.

Since it is the 5 of them they might have wanted to wait until all 5 could write or at least be free to write without screwing up their 'day jobs" so to speak.

The strike had nothing to do with CT, not a legal sense anyway.

What do you mean legal sense?  If you were a WGA member then you couldn't practice your craft during the strike or face expulsion from the Union.  That's all it meant.  You couldn't be prosecuted.  It was entirely the Union affiliation that was preventing WGA members from writing.  That's it.  So like he said, if some of them couldn't write for this reason that may have caused a delay.  But who knows.

No that is wrong. You could write for yourself as much as you like, no one can stop you doing that. You could not work on any studio related product covered by the WG-Studio contract. In Mary Jo's new interview with Frank he was writing for Nickelodeon during the strike. The Strike did not cover all writing by it's members.

yeah but some people got screwed...take Jay Leno for instance, technically just him writing notes for his monologue would have been against the WGA's no writing during strike. I'm sure they would have cut him some slack, but technically, it would have been against the strike if he did since he is a WGA member, and a performer.

Ok, then what were the legal ramifications you were suggesting?

Hang on. If Frank was writing for Nick, then was he working on an animated show? If so, it's my understanding that the animation writers are covered by a different contract and weren't on strike.

BathTub

Uhh yeah, I'm the one saying that the Strike didn't stop all writing, because it doesn't cover all writing!

Actually it does follow if you read it.  I was basically just saying there is were no legal problems involved at all.
These are labor agreements, and since there was no contract at the time there was nothing legally binding.

And where did I say there were legal ramifications? You are aware that when I said not I didn't really mean lots and lots and lots and lots?

The WGA Strike covered a very specific area of "Writing", which did not have anything to do with CT (or RiffTrax).

BathTub

Sorry BTA I guess I'm just not clear on what you were asking me.

An explanation from the email newsletter:

QuoteSpeaking of our intentions, many of you may be saying to yourself: "That's great, I can download the first episode - now how about some MORE EPISODES, you lazy bums!?" Well, here's the deal: due to the disruption of the 100-day writer's strike, Hollywood has been in catch-up mode for the last couple of months making it impossible for us to secure a soundstage to shoot on at a rate we could afford.  No one wanted to rent us a stage for a week when there were others in line wanting it for several weeks at a time...until NOW. We have officially secured a stage for the second week of May, at which time we will be shooting the next THREE EPISODES of CT! That means starting in June, we can all start to enjoy the regular release schedule we all hoped to achieve for CT. The positive response from people over "The Oozing Skull" combined with the amount of fun we've had working with each other made it a no-brainer for us to continue (no-brainers are the decisions we make best around here).

Sounds reasonable.

Not bad at all. means i will actually have some episodes to watch once i get back in 2 years. woo!

Nice to know they're smart enough to film more than one episode this time, but I'm shocked they had all that tons of scaffolding and junk and they didn't even have a permanent place to put it? Who has to lug it around, that's what I want to know.

Rude

...

Hey, look at that... they're actually communicating with their customers! Go figure.
