So I shouldn't start posting really stupid things like "Rifftrax is way better because they were the first ones to riff movies?"   ;)

I think I read it on the internet, so it must be true.  Oh right.  I read that on the internet right after I typed it.

Nah, they won't hurt anyone.

One thing I thinking after watching The Oozing Skull is that since they got rid of everything but the silhouettes it seems to me that licensing films isn't a very good model for making money. If the Rifftrax player was tweaked to overlay the silhouettes over top of the DVD then Cinematic Titanic could be done without licensing the films just like Rifftrax.

There's a significant difference between synching up a separate sound stream from the video (that only has to be re-synched at certain key points) and having to keep 2 separate video feeds synched up and overlayed in realtime, every single frame. I'm not saying it isn't possible, but that's a SIGNIFICANTLY different technology than what the player currently does.

Plus who wants to watch them on your computer??? What about the freeze frames?

Ah, but what if you didn't worry about that? What if you synched up the silhouette layer (which includes the Riff audio) to the movie the same way you do just the audio? The silhouettes don't really need to have a frame by frame lock with the movie, it just has to be in synch with the riff audio. For the freeze frame the player just pauses the DVD feed while continuing the riff feed. There was enough slopp in the CT freeze frames if the timing of the pause isn't exact it wouldn't hurt anything as long as you have the right frame paused.

Well, I don't know how you know that, but it's not really that complicated. It's just a subtitle track. They do it on a few DVDs. Namely Ghostbusters, Men in Black, and Muppets From Space. Still, I don't think anyone would want to have to buy The Oozing Brain of Blood separately. It wouldn't really be any cheaper for us, would it? A Rifftrax can cost up to $25 if you're unlucky. So whether it's good for business for CT to license the film doesn't mean much unless it puts them out of business.

Don't forget that most people have legal ways like Netflix of getting ahold of DVDs for little or no extra money out of pocket. I for one am not impressed enough by The Oozing Skull to justify paying $7.95 over Rifftrax pricing (4.99 for 5 hosts) for future episodes unless they add more meat to it.

Well, it's kind of ironic they just released the Oozing Brain Blood on DVD. I don't think all their future titles will be so lucky.

What do you mean? The whole project is meant for DVD release. Either you burn it yourself or you pay the company to do it and send it to you. Either way its "on" DVD.

Yeah, you lost me too.

The company who owns the movie released it under its actual title, which is why they had to change the title for the CT release. They said so. I said it's ironic that their first movie actually is available separately so they could have done an audio/subtitle release and not have to license it. But probably not future titles.
