I don't know why... but i've always been a sucker for packaging. It's half the reason that i collect toys, then never open the boxes. Anyway, if Cinematic Titanic offers actual, physical DVDs, that's going to be my choice. I'll have to scope out the whole downloadable burnable option, of course. But even if the first releases come in envelopes with nothing more than a CT sticker on them, i'll need to have it... It makes no sense, i know. But i can't help it, i'm a sucker.

Pretty much the same way with me.  That's why I buy all the movies Rifftrax puts out.  I think the only one I've rented is Grey's Anatomy.

Edit: and I borrowed Eragon from someone.

I'm not sure if its been mentioned in this thread yet. But, I bet the download-DVD Burnable version is a DivX version.

I really can't see them offering a 4GB MPEG2 download-DVD Burnable version.

And of course, this means we will need a CT series of standard covers.

Sure packaging is neat and all but it doesn't bother me that there is no packaging for a Rifftrax. Convienence is important and dlng a MP4 file will make things easier. Though I too am trying to figure out how they plan on doing this bandwith wise....

True, but that might not be the kind of thing they want us to post 'round here.  I assume CT will have some kind of forum, eventually.

Ah, good point.      Of course, i am sure that the forum cross over membership will be quite high.

I have no doubt of that, but I'm not sure where I'll stand there.  Right now this is the only forum I visit, and it takes up enough of my damn time.  :P

I think someone can do scans of the "real" dvd covers for everyone.

If they are going to provide divx files of the riff/movie, perhaps they will create their own covers as well.

Since they have said they will sell it in DVD format, I would imagine they would have some sort of cover.   If not, time to get creative.

I've read through the post again, and I think you're wrong.  I really think they intend to offer downloadable DVD iso files.  They keep referring to them as home-fab'd DVD's, which to me means "plays on a DVD player" not "file that fits on a DVD".

BTW, it's occurred to me that Joel kinda looks like a basset hound anymore, and Josh looks like Tory from Mythbusters.  Just an observation.

Chaos

See, that's the weird thing about the downloadable option... it doesn't make sense.

Either:

1) it's a full DVD iso that can be directly burned with basically any burning software (Nero, XP's or Vista's built-in burning functionality, etc), but it's a huge 4 gig download - bad for us as consumers having to wait for it to download, bad for them as a business having so much bandwidth pouring down the pipe.

or

2) it's a DivX download that's roughly 700 megs, easy to download and easy on the bandwidth, but you actually have to have some computer knowledge and possibly custom software in order to get it onto a DVD (and if your software isn't good, you will get image quality degredation when you convert it).

Both options have some HUGE negatives, for both parties concerned.

I honestly can't say which I think would be better. In terms of which option it will BE, I would have to guess based on context and the other downloadable offering (iPod's MPEG-4 format, which is about halfway in between iso and avi formats in terms of physical size) that it is probably going to end up being the 4 gig iso format, ready to burn.

If I were them, I'd be very concerned about potential piracy, offering a downloadable version. Unless of course they intend to use DRM with the software, which would be even worse.

You don't have to make an iso 4 gig!
