Not too bad.   I've been looking forward to an awful movie and from what I've seen this one could deliver.   Now I'm just not sure if I should watch the movie alone first or just wait for the rifftrax.

Next is a terrible movie; even for a Nick Cage movie.  It's just bad, very bad.  What really pisses me off is that it's a Phillip K. Dick story.

What really pisses me off is that it's a Phillip K. Dick story.

Technically true, however, upon reading the actual description of the story,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Golden_Man

you realize that Next is probably even less faithful to "The Golden Man" as The Wicker Man was to the story that inspired it.

The titular "Golden Man" is a feral young man named Cris with gold-colored skin, who does not appear to be sapient, but possesses the ability to see into the future (specifically, the ability to see all possible outcomes from any single action, described in the story as similar to a chess player with the ability to see all possible moves 5 steps ahead).

That's what I mean though.  I've read the story.  Now who's idea was it to change a great sci-fi story by a brilliant sci-fi writer into a piece of shit movie where a bad magician sees the future for some unknown reason.  Hollywood is so wrong about the public's desire for sci-fi movies.

Ugh, this movie looks terrible...that clip is the first I've seen of Next.

That clip reminds me of Groundhog Day, except that it isn't funny, and it sucks.  (the movie I mean, not the riffing)

(shrug) I saw it a couple of weeks ago and I thought it was pretty well done.  Until I saw the announcement on the site, I wouldn't have pegged it was being a possibility for a Rifftrax. Personally, I'd place it on the level of Con Air, not a spectacular movie, but amusing to watch.

And I enjoyed Next a lot more than I did A Scanner Darkly.

I think that Next is one of the most inept movies we've ever done.  The movies internal logic completely fails, the quickly developed relationship between the two "lovers" is preposterous, the villains motivation is never made clear.  I assumed initially that it had been fleshed out from a ten page short story, but now I know that it was really fleshed out from a few paragraphs of a story which may or may not be longer than ten minutes.

The thing that bugs me about this type of movie is Most annoying.

Yeah, I forgot about that.  The ending is also probably one of the worst I've ever seen in a movie.

Hollywood seems to view PKD as a convenient way to give their crappy scifi movies some respectability.
Whenever I see that 'based on' credit now I just assume that means they thought the title of the book was cool and wanted to use it.

Phillip K. Dick was really, really good at clever story conceits, which is probably why people keep making his stories into films.

Of course, there's a lot more to a good movie than a clever concept, which is probably why most of those films suck so badly.
