I'm not narcoleptic...I have a very healthy sleep schedule.  :) It's just that with the arm rests that go up you can lay across two seats and with the theatres being so cold I have to bring a blanket or my toes go numb (because I take my shoes off before I put my feet on the chair). Not to mention the fact that all of the movies I fall asleep during are b o r i n g.
there, there my dear. Few corpses are worth tears.

QuoteI'm not sure that there's much veracity in that claim either considering the high level of artifice that surrounds the book.

The original plot structure did.  It was in the writing that the various (genius) levels of meta were added.

I fall asleep when I try to watch Blade Runner. I like the movie, but it zonks me every time.

But how do you know that? ;)

QuoteHe was still on tv, perhaps not a household name yet, but he was touring the nation by then.  By the time the 80s came around and wrestling went into one of it's bigger boom periods, Andre had already had a well established career and was already past his prime.

Oh, OK, you mean the shading of the character in the movie.   I'm talking about the book version.

As am I.  True it's always hard to work your way though all the artifice around the story, but from what I've heard Goldman at least told Andre himself during the making of the movie, that the character was always based on him.  This goes right to the detail about him specializing in fighting groups and gangs, as that was often worked into his wrestling, having him defeat numerous opponents at once.

Oh man, The Life Aquatic. My wife went into labour to avoid having to watch that movie all the way through. 35 minutes in... BAM - here comes the kid, get me away from this damn film. ;)

I can totally buy that for the movie version, but just don't see it for the book; it doesn't seem like the timelines or the character markers match up.  Oh well, maybe they got mushed together, mentally :)  I can see that happening.

If there's confusion there, I'm thinking it's gone all the way back to Goldman, so we may never know the truth of it.   ;D  Ah well, good book and good movie with a good cast, that's all I really care about in the end.

Agreed :)  Either way, it's one of the best book-to-move adaptations out there.

[Does anyone know why Shepard Fairey chose him for the OBEY posters?  Was it just because he liked him?

Fairey's stated goal was to just create some sort of phenomenon.  I haven't heard his specific reasons for choosing Andre', but I would guess it was because of his striking appearance, and his pre-existing cult status.

The OBEY thing came later, by the way.  The original posters just said, "Andre' the Giant has a Posse" along with a greyscale picture of Andre' and his height and weight.  Then Fairey got sued for using the copyrighted name "Andre' the Giant", so he changed the image and added the "OBEY" motif.

Thanks for noticin' me, Steve-O  ;)  (Eeyore voice)

I fell asleep during 300.  Yeah, you heard me right.  Three.  Hundred.  Suck on that.  I also kept falling asleep during Yojimbo, but that might have more to do with how exhausted I was and less with how bad the movie was.

Fell asleep in the theatre during The Life Aquatic twice, Transformers, that one where Theron wears vinyl pants, Pan's Labyrinth, Simpsons Movie, 300...there are more but I can't remember...

Actually I fell asleep on Pan's too, I didn't think the movie was all that great. One movie that I passed out on at first was Memento. I missed the beginning and I didn't know what was going on so I passed out. When I watched it in its entirety, I loved it.

Cosmic Muse

Transformers...this is a movie I had to watch two times, once for the beginning and the second time for the ending because I was so pissed off at it. I'm still pissed off and I loudly voiced my anger in a Wal-Mart when I saw the DVD.
Being a genocidal maniac is not one of my turn ons.

Is it weird to hear the Safety Dance in my head watching Game of Thrones?

Yeah, I just watched it.  My hearing has yet to return, and I'm still having seizures from the action scenes.....but I'm sure that was Michael Bay's only point in making this movie.  It was like Armageddon with transformers.
