But don't you think black and white is pretty?  When it's done well, it's just so beautiful.

Here, here...
In brightest day, in darkest night
No DVD shall escape their sight
Let those who tremble in bad movies light,
Beware the power, Rifftrax's might!

I get that WW2 was not filmed in color at the time for various reasons. Why was Schindler's List filmed in BW though. Is it a spoof of old movies? Is it trying to be artsy fartsy? Maybe I just don't get it, but to me taking the color away is like watching Mission Impossible 3 without sound. Why bother. Schindler's List in BW isn't a reflection on the time as much as it is on movies of the time.

I think Schindler's List was a conscious decision to go B&W for several reasons, perhaps one of which is because if that movie was in color, it would be far too gruesome for most people to watch.

Correct, and also for emotional emphasis. It provided a contrast between certain elements in the film that were color (the little girl's jacket) that, in the end, helped drive a point home. Not that it really needed to be but it helps add weight, I guess.

There is a whole chapter in one of my huge art books about the cinematography in this one. Say what you will about Spielberg, he knows what he's doing.

Did anyone ever see Amistad? Kind of 50% boring courtroom stuff but the other 50% is masterful.

Well actually that "50% boring courtroom stuff" was the best part of the movie.

I'd really like to read that chapter on the cinematography of Schindler's List.  I thought it was extremely well done.

You are correct. No one shoots 'people looking at stuff' as well as Spielburg.
Grapes? I hate grapes, I can't stand grapes. I loathe grapes. All kinds of grapes. I hate green grapes and I hate purple grapes. I hate grapes with seeds, I hate grapes without seeds. I hate them peeled and nonpeeled. I hate them in bunches, one at a time and in small groups of twos and threes.

Where, where?

Also, so far, most the movies riffed have been pretty terrible. LotR, X-Men and Halloween are exceptions, but Cocktail is for instance hands down one of the worst movies I have ever seen in every single aspect except maybe lighting and sound.
