...you couldn't pay me to step foot in Arkansas.

Whoa, cheap shot on Arkansas out of nowhere! BAM!
In brightest day, in darkest night
No DVD shall escape their sight
Let those who tremble in bad movies light,
Beware the power, Rifftrax's might!

Thank you for the kind words... its obvious that MontyServo is some sort of M.A.S.H. hater, and as such, cannot be trusted ;)

Sometimes I might come off as gruff, but please remember, I am here to help, not harm.

That's all I was trying to say, you come across a bit rough sometimes when doing this, and I could see where it might scare a newbie off.  Sorry the conversation got a bit heated.  I tend to get long-winded when I get off on a rant like that.  No hard feelings, i hope.  I really do enjoy your posts.

And I love M*A*S*H, at least the early Trapper John, Col. Blake years.   ;D

And I also apologize to the original poster for allowing her thread to be hijacked by our "friendly debate"

...and the beer offer still stands, find me at the event, and I'd be happy to get you a cold one.

I love happy endings.  Good show you guys.  *throws some flowers onto the stage*

I can't stay mad about things, and I try not to get too upset...  It's just a waste of time and effort

MST3K was a great show and I believe contained some of the finest comedy writing on TV. Funnier than the last decade of SNL by far. It's disheartening to be chastised for wanting to see the head writer of that show spread his wings (for a lack of a better term) and not be pigeon holed to audio track dialog writing because people say it would resemble MST3K. Just because I would like to see that creative talent in other formats does not mean I want to turn RiffTrax into that other show.

QuoteTo be perfectly clear here, Diet Kolos isn't a newbie... she's been here since early September. and I've seen her trolling around just like the rest of us.  I didn't call her names... I didn't insult her for not knowing some unwritten board rule... I just made a  type comment.

Yes I have been a member since Sept. and according to the counter at the top of my screen I have been trolling around for a total of 5 hours and 25 minutes with a total of 12 post (not including this one). I purchased "Road House" as soon as I was aware of it and although I currently do not have all the titles in the catalog I'm sure I'll get around to buying the latest 2 releases. That being said I do consider myself a fan of RiffTrax but I will not feel bad for wanting this enterprising business expand into other venues.

It's good to see that everyone here has kissed and made up with Tarantulas but I have yet to read his apology. I'm sure he believes he doesn't need one and considers it very helpful (that why he's here, to help) and not insulting, shouting that a thread is already discussed to death with out even considering what the thread is about. He doesn't want people attacking his posting record but my membership registration date seems to justify his assumption of my discussion topic knowledge. No he did not call me a name, instead he just screamed at me that my idea was MST3K 2.0 and I should shut up about it. I have let go of that show and am ready and willing to embrace this new venture but I will not forget what made that other show funny either and that was Mike's and the rest of the crews talent. I do not worry or hope that RiffTrax will turn into MST3K, as a for profit business it will find it's own path in the market driven economy.

I will make the assumption that everyone in this round table is a fan and financial supporter of RiffTrax, and being the case if we care about the success of it it would be fitting that we treat all members ideas with a little respect regardless of how many times it has been discussed.

Let's see if I can provoke some more trouble and instead of using Frank Burns for comparison, let's say Tarantula occasionally brings to mind Dwight Shrute, and the rest of us want to be the guy to put his stapler in Jell-o. But we still appreciate the big lug.

First of all I did not "scream" at you... I gave a written version of a  ::) You are blowing this whole thing out of proportions to call 2 sentences "screaming".  I think I used a 14 point font... screaming would be like 72 point (because its just being obnoxious).

If you were truly that insulted, you need to dial your sensitivity down a notch as that my post was not a personal attack on you.  It was commentary on several forum members desire to turn Rifftrax into a MST reboot project.

If you read through the thread, you will see that I took far more arrows than you can count from people who were pissed because you were pissed.  Notice I didn't lose my cool or fall back on baseless accusations or insult the other parties involved, nary and f-bomb was dropped.

In terms of how long you have been here, I would say that you have to be in the top 100 users in terms of hours looking around on the forum.  I did a post a week or so back about how many active members we really have in terms of posts (and as a side note, time online).  There are tons of folks who register, look around, and then are never heard from again.

Back to what you originally posted about...

Again, while we all like the way things use to be with MST, Rifftrax is a different beast.  Mike has other obligations that most likely will come before adding skits and musical numbers to the current Rifftrax formula, but only time will tell.  Rifftrax (to this point) gives off a vibe of "Mike is sitting down to watch a movie and just giving it the business"... no back story... so goofy pretense.. just pure, uncut, riffing.  To add all that stuff smacks of an attempt to launch some sort of MST 2.0 or MST Lite.  We all miss those old MST touches, but MST is gone.

Rifftrax is excellent as is without any extra filler that takes away from time spent writing great riffs (which is the real reason we are here anyway).

If you interpreted my comment as some sort of personal attack, I apologize that you took it as such but realize that it was not meant as one.

But if you are looking for an apology for stating my opinions, and groaning that we are rehashing this topic yet again, then you will be waiting a while.

People will disagree, people will get their feelings hurt (wither it was the other parties intention or not), the Sun will rise and set...

I actually thought of comparing the spider dude to Dwight, then Gareth Keenan, then finally decided to use the classic annoying sitcom foil, Frank Burns.

Speaking of the topic at hand, and I'm not sure if this point was mentioned before in all the talk about MST-Lite so forgive me if it has.  I would think that they are already cutting pretty close to copyright problems with Best Brains by riffing movies in the first place using Mike, Kevin, and Bill.  If they were to try and make it more like MST with skits and musical numbers, Jim Mallon might have a copyright infringement case against Rifftrax for stealing MST3K's concept.

And speaking of Jim Mallon, who here would like to see Jim join Mike for a Rifftrax?  He could do it as Gypsy!  It would be swell!  Also they could get Kevin to do a Rifftrax as Professor Bobo!  And Bill as Brain Guy!   And how about a backstory for Mike!  What is his motivation for riffing the movies?  Is he being forced to by some sort of "mad" Legend Films exec??  :P

I really think we all should just enjoy the gettin' while the gettin' is good.  Hooray for Rifftrax and the Film Crew!  Many years of success for both projects!  And if Jim Mallon can ever put together a one-shot MST3K reunion (I don't think any reunion would go beyond that), sometime in the future, then that would be awesome too!

Tarantulas, ever the victim. I find it amazing that you lay the blame of peoples response to your comment at my feet. They were pissed because I was pissed. Not because of what you posted. Your baseless accusation was that I was trying to revive MST3K. Your insults are not delivered with vulgar language but by the discounting of other peoples ideas because they are not what you want them to be.

Of course I took it personally. It was my post you tried to squash with your crusade of anti MST3K reference. If you do not see the inherent difference in what and how you posted your initial comment and disagreeing with someone then there is no point discussing this further.

I feel sorry for you Tarantulas, you face an uphill battle of censoring this board against wanting to see RiffTrax grow. No doubt your will have countless arrows slung at you while you battle the members who dare suggest RiffTrax be anything else that it is now.

I enjoy RiffTrax a great deal but only a true self absorbed "#1 Fan!" would claim to know why we're all here. Thank you Tarantulas for taking the time out of your busy day to make sure this RiffTrax forum goes only in the direction you see fit. It really is the Tarantulas Round Table.

That said, this will be my last post. There is no point in trying to chat about things on this forum if I have to worry that I'm going in a direction that is not approved by the self appointed RiffTrax Round Table director. And if any Moderators have read this thread...

I suggest you urge Mike to get a restraining order out on Tarantulas. His personal knowledge of Mikes obligations and ambitions is a little creepy.

I wish Mike and the staff at RiffTrax and Legend films great success and hope to hear and see them make fun of movies in many shapes and forms.

Diet Kolos out.

Growth means putting old things away and looking to the future.  To say "let's put more <concept> into Rifftrax because I miss that from the MST days" seems like stepping backwards, and is an attempt to create a MST 2.0, which Rifftrax isn't.  I'm not censoring anyone, you are more then entitled to your opinions, just as entitled as I am to argue the point against them.  Rather than fall on your sword and complain about the big bad spider making poopy on your ideas, come up with a point that supports your opinion.  Sway me to your side!

2 sentences w/ no punctuation... it was a  ::), not me pouring sugar in your gas tank.

Also, I'm not anti MST, I'm pro Rifftrax.  There is a difference.

We are here to discuss a lot of things, including what you started the thread with.  However, it has been discussed quite heavily in other threads out on the board.  I've stated my exact same opinion, no one else has left or felt so put out that they "took their ball and went home."  This is on you, not me.  I invite you to stay and join in on the fun of the Rifftrax forum, there is a lot of great conversation to be had.  Just dial your sensitivity level up a bit or you will always think that people are out to get you (which they aren't).

QuoteI suggest you urge Mike to get a restraining order out on Tarantulas. His personal knowledge of Mikes obligations and ambitions is a little creepy.

That is a very childish comment to make, and far more spiteful and rude than ANYTHING I have seen on this forum to this point.  You should be very proud of yourself.

Mike has a lot of commitments right now with Rifftrax, Cracked Magazine, Home Theater Mag, and The Film Crew (not to mention family and person stuff the same as what goes on in anyone else's life).  Mike makes his professional life very public so that way fans know what he's up to.  It's not as if I'm going through his trash to find out this information, it's freely available on the same intraweb that you are on currently.

Ouch.  This thread is painful.

Just a word to the Spider-Dude:  While I'm sure you had good intentions for what you wrote at the start of the thread, it came off badly.  This was a thread a newbie posted just wishing they could hear some musical numbers during Rifftrax (which I wholeheartedly support) and possibly a video skit now and again.  Despite the relative merits of the argument of "discussing things to death", the newbie has now left the board and many other posters now have a bad taste in their mouth regarding you and your attempts at a "light touch" in "molding the community".   While I agree that older posters should guide newbies to the right places on the board where they can discover the answers they search for (and I know there's a search function, but could we try a little patience with them until they learn?), shouting (and it was shouting - in big blue writing) that this is not "MST3K3 2.0" helps no one.  It gives the impression that we're unfriendly, unhelpful and unwilling to discuss something that a newbie would want to talk about.

I've enjoyed your contributions to the board so far (the interview, the competition and the general conversations),  but you should really reconsider the "light touch" method, because it was about as light as a sledge hammer in this thread.
