Musical Numbers and Skits

I realize that Rifftrax is an audio medium but does anyone here miss the skits and musical numbers that peppered MST3K with whimsy and merriment. I do and would pay extra for a track that had such material. It could be a Flash video file included in the download that you could watch whenever or when instructed to by the audio track. Its a pretty big creep out of the original scope but some of the funniest things I've ever seen or heard were in those skits. Especially the some of the songs Mike would sing.

Before everyone gets in a big discussion about how this isn't MST3K2 (I think of it as MST3K-Lite, but that's another thread.) I think the real problem here would be time/budget considerations. MST3K had the budget to crank out funny bits. Keeping the medium completely audio keeps it cheaper.

Now I DO think it would be cool if Mike spent more time in the Credits giving his afterthoughts on the movie or entertaining us in some other movie-related fashion, but that's me. :^)

I get that it's an audio-only enterprise and likely to remain so...

But I could also picture a goofy video intro, like the beginning of those old Siskel & Ebert shows where they have their name on a Raisinets box or bucket of popcorn.   Okay, corny.  Literally.  But fun.

Rifftrax is NOT MST 2.0

This topic has been discussed to death...  so enough already.

Tell 'em, Steve-Dave!

(One good turn deserves another!  ;D)

Videos would require a lot more time than we have and be a lot more complicated than is necessary.  Musical numbers I wouldn't rule out though.

But it would seem like the best time to do somthing "goofy" is during the end credits.

In brightest day, in darkest night
No DVD shall escape their sight
Let those who tremble in bad movies light,
Beware the power, Rifftrax's might!

Yes that would be grrrrREAT! However some ending credits are easier to work with then others.

Pak-Man

There's usually an instrumental piece in the credits. Mike should make up some lyrics to sing along. :^)

I thought the short videos of Mike's first days at the office were funny and along the lines of production value sufficient for the kinds of skits I envisioned.

As to Tarantulas comment, I never said RiffTrax was MST3K 2.0 and I have no expectation of it ever being so. I was just expressing (which is what I thought this forum was for) my personal interest in the expansion of the formats in which Mikes comedic writing could be used. Making fun of movies does not have to start and end at one liners inserted between dialog.

I do not post or even visit this forum everyday and so I am not completely read up on the the discussions as some one who is as well read as Tarantulas. Perhaps he can start a thread of subjects he believes have been "discussed to death" so myself and others like me who visit and post occasionally will not make the faux-pas of posting about them. It must be incredibly time consuming to read all the posts and correct people on their choice of topic. Maybe he might save himself some time if he just doesn't comment on something he thinks doesn't need discussing.

Pak-Man

Don't mind T-Rant. He doesn't exist. Your topic is unique and wholly discussable. Go on. :^)

I agree that this topic (and any topic related to Rifftrax) should be discussed, regardless of whether or not it has been "discussed to death...".  Revisiting topics with new threads is not going to be the end of this board.  If anything, it is up to the moderators of this board to decide what topics should be merged or closed to streamline the board.

As far as the spider dude is concerned, I think of him as the Frank Burns of this board.  He is the guy you love to hate.  Mr. 10% as I like to call him (well actually Mr. 10.4%,  1379 out of 13259 total posts at the time of this writing) obviously is very passionate about this board and Rifftrax.  He just wants to see an orderly board.  There is nothing wrong with that.  I just think he could use a little more tact when he expresses his opinions on such matters.  It is that sort of response that will chase the newbie poster away, before they ever have the chance to become a welcome member of the community.

QuoteWhere's your entry, Spider Man?

I'm waiting till the winners are announced.  I'm enjoying reading what others have posted though.

And where is the spider dude's Riff-Off entry???  For someone as passionate about Rifftrax as he is, you would have figured he would be the first to post his entry after the contest ended.  I'm really curious to see what he came up with.

On the topic at hand, I would also love to see either video "introductions" to the various Rifftrax, ala the Youtube clips that were posted by Legend films showing Mike's first days at Legend.  Or musical numbers over the end credits or maybe during musical montage segments of the films where appropriate.

Everyone gets some love here, so read on gentle traveler...

Quoteregardless of whether or not it has been "discussed to death...".  Revisiting topics with new threads is not going to be the end of this board.

But in a way it is... when your community talk in circles, whats the point in listening?  When the mods formed this, I'm sure the goal was discussing Rifftrax and the new ground that the project is covering (newer movies, more adult content) NOT rehashing Mike's old products to the point that conversations EXACTLY like this happen.

Also, it's not "revisiting" when there are other threads going right now with this very topic at its heart.

QuoteAs to Tarantulas comment, I never said RiffTrax was MST3K 2.0 and I have no expectation of it ever being so.

"I don't want this to be MST, but can you integrate some skits and songs into Rifftrax?  Also if you have time, throw in some robots." ;)

The forum does have a search function where you can check in and see if a topic you are interested in is out there.  I think it's great when someone brings a thread back from the dead by adding a comment and getting the ball rolling again.  Starting another thread on a topic that is already being discussed elsewhere is generally or starting a new thread just because you are on page 18 is a  ::)

ok....

Rifftrax is not MST.  Why integrate a bunch of things into Rifftrax that would make it more MST like?  No matter how much you want to change and add things, its still never going to be MST.

I love MST as much as anyone else here, but its gone.  Lost to television history.

Rifftrax is here to give us the core thing that brought us to MST in the first place, riffing on bad (or sort of bad) movies.

Rifftrax will never be MST... or MST Lite... it will just be Rifftrax.  For better or worse.

Pay tribute to the memory of MST by letting it go.

QuoteI just think he could use a little more tact when he expresses his opinions on such matters.  It is that sort of response that will chase the newbie poster away, before they ever have the chance to become a welcome member of the community.

Notice I didn't say "you idiot! that's being discussed elsewhere!" or some other such insulting nonsense.  I just made a comment and left it at that.  I've seen Kolos lurking around for a while now (I mean come on, he's 8ft tall) he should sort of know by now how the forum flows.  The problem with text is that people automatically assume the worst and come out "guns 'a blazing".

QuoteAnd where is the spider dude's Riff-Off entry???

It's on the way... and when it arrives, I hope you all enjoy reading it as much as the NoTheater gang enjoyed writing it.

QuoteYea, something like this, we def. need more of this...

I can agree with this one big time... Mike does seem to bug out on the credits pretty early leaving us to make fun of the 1st assistant best boy all on our own.

Rifftrax is a rehash of Mike's old product.  So why wouldn't there be discussion of that old product here as it relates to Rifftrax?

Perhaps there should be a section for all the newbies to discuss their dumb "discussed to death" topics and a section for all the Hero and Full members to quip to each other while ignoring 95% of the newbie posts.  That way all newcomers would feel welcome on the board and not have to worry about offending the board elders, and all the oldtimers could have their little off-topic inside joke marathons that nobody understands anyway.  Everybody would be happy.

Again, it should be up to the moderators to decide what threads are to be merged and closed because there are active (meaning within the last day or two, not last week or month) threads discussing the same thing.  When a board member (even a Hero member!) decides to try and run the board, it just comes across as arrogant and a bit pathetic.

Let's see your text...  Rifftrax is NOT MST 2.0.  Ok not too bad, you expressed your opinion on the subject... Wait, that's right you had to SHOUT IT!.  What a fool I was to assume the worst.
