The Monster Squad. A nice little Goonies-ish film, but not as fun as I heard (and hoped) it was.

I recently watched Monster squad as well. Lot's of slow moving monsters and terrible character cliche's. (THE FAT KID HURT DRACULA WITH A PIECE OF PIZZA, CAUSE HE'S FAT AND HE KNOWS THAT PIZZA HAS GARLIC! HE'S FAT! HAHA!) Kinda fun, though.

Chaos

Dudes... I can't be your friends if you badmouth Monster Squad. That movie is a treasured (campy) part of my childhood. :)

can I get it on netfliks?
Every day of my life I find the wisest and best to fix our attention on the Good and the Beautiful. If you just take the time to look at it.

The poster reminds me of Swing Girls, another Japanese film.  That was great, too.

Yep!  It's hard to find, because their search engine is kinda crappy, but definitely add it - it's lots of fun, even if it's a bit slow at parts.

Brücke, Die ( The Bridge, 1959), In the last days of the war, kids are drafted  to become human sandbags to slow down the allied advance. This is about a group of 7 teenage boys who are drafted and with 1 day of training are ordered to protect the bridge into their town. There is something odd to me about watching German films about the second world war, especially when you think that plenty of the people in the film could have really been soldiers.

Have you see Der Untergang (Downfall)? Admittedly it doesn't have the immediacy of Die Brücke since most of the actors are from post war generations but it's still a fascinating portrayal of the collapse of Berlin and its effect on both the central core of the NAZI machine (as well as the circular causative effect Hitler's growing derangement had on the war effort) and the people of the city.

Yeesh. I'm glad we grew out of that '70s-ish phase of movies with whiny, shrill, worthless female leads. Oh, wait...

Nope, but I see that my rental service lists it, so I've added it to the queue. Since I don't have to run out to work tomorrow night, for my weekly friday night movie we are going to watch Hitler: The Rise of Evil. Don't usually watch this much war stuff, it's just my Film Society is ending the year with a run of old german films.

You might also want to check out Im toten Winkel - Hitlers Sekretärin (Blind Spot) and Sophie Scholl - Die letzten Tage though that may a bit of a Hitler/NAZI overload.

Cool Fatso had both of those, not so worried about an overload, you never know exactly which film is going to show up next.

Isn't it so hilariously predictible?  It's so bad, we couldn't stop watching.
