I did not get the "they are the forefathers of our civilization" theme - unless that's something I missed. That is an X-files theme, but what I gathered is like what Imrahil said. They've been around for longer than the natives there, who worshiped them as gods. Always a possibility that I missed a key line of dialogue or something :)

Maybe I misspoke, but I meant that aliens had an impact on earlier history, which obviously they did to the meso-Americans.  There were a few lines along the lines of "no human could have done such a thing" from the Russian.  I've only seen it once so I don't remember what they were referencing, knowing Speilburg it was the pyramids, but that's a different point in history.  I DO remember rolling my eyes :)

And the soundtrack was better than I thought it would be, I'm getting kind of sick of John Williams, and I actually kind of liked how he played around with the theme until the very end when he finally played it in full. I was waiting the entire movie to hear the theme, and I found it fun that I only heard little bits and pieces till the end.

From what I heard of the soundtrack, it was the one part that really disappointed me. It was just a patchwork of the earlier scores, really; I didn't hear much in the way of original, new material written for this movie.  I've ordered it from Amazon, should arrive this week, and I'll know more then.

I'm a huge John Williams fan, but he hasn't had a ton of great scores lately.  Jurassic Park was good, and then...well, Harry Potter 3 was excellent.  But yeah, I'd say he peaked in the mid-80s.  His last really excellent score is probably Empire of the Sun.

Harry Potter 3, will always remain my favorite John Williams score...But I'm more of a James Newton Howard fan

Oy.  Yeah, I don't like him.  But I hate all the media ventures people.  I prefer actual instruments to synthesizers.
Have you heard Williams' scores for...y'know, Star Wars? :)

I own all of the star wars soundtracks...even an LP of the Empire Strikes Back. I like all three of the original trilogy, but I only like a few of the songs from each of the prequel trilogies.

Say what you want about the Prequels (And you all have already) you GOTTA give it up for Dual of the Fates. :^)

Never has Sanskrit been used so menacingly.

Duel of the Fates, Across the Stars, and Battle of the Heroes are the tracks that I really like from the prequel soundtracks. I also like a few others from Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, but those three are the ones I can listen to over and over again.

I don't mind the prequels soundtracks, but they're quite a bit less quality than the Star Wars soundtrack, or even Empire.  Raiders is marvelous too.  And I just got Indy 4 in the mail today, and am pissed to see it doesn't have a jewel case, and is instead cardboard around a plastic disc-holder.  Aka, it'll be frayed and ruined in 5 years.

I've noticed the card board disc holders have been the trend lately. I don't care if jewel cases can get smashed when they fall off of my massive stack of CDs. I want jewel cases! If they get smashed, I buy another jewel case and switch them...but if the cardboard bends, or gets messed up, its ruined forever. It sucks. I've taken to downloading all of my music from gomusic.ru even though I love the booklets that come with the CDs. Oh well.

I love my Return of the Jedi soundtrack...and Raiders is good, I think my sister has the extended soundtrack for Raiders...and Last Crusade I think. Both good, though Raiders is the best.

I'll post it here, 'cause it's kinda related

QuoteThis past weekend, Harrison Ford successfully brought back Indiana Jones, but there are other characters he would love to bring back as well. Unfortunately for "Star Wars" fans, he ruled out a revival of character Han Solo.

"Oh, Han Solo isn't interesting to me," Ford told The Sun. "It's a very narrow sort of utility in the story and it was great for my career and it was fun to play at the time but I wouldn't go back there again."

He went on to explain that he would bring back other characters if the story was good enough. "But there are characters that it seems to me are worth re-exploring given that the story advances your understanding of the character, deepens your relationship to that character, and takes you into an area that's new and unexpected," he said. "Some characters are decidedly one off kind of characters. I don't think there would be any profit in making another John Book movie, which is the character from 'Witness.'"

He added that Jack Ryan, who Ford played in "Patriot Games" and "Clear and Present Danger," would also be worth bringing back. "The Ryan films, the Tom Clancy films were I thought worth re-exploring again but I wasn't a huge fan of the book on which the last one was based," Ford said of "The Sum of All Fears." "I thought it was more out of date than the others, so I think they made a cracking good shot at it and I think Ben Affleck is very very talented. I thought he did great and it was a fine movie but it wasn't for me. But again, that's a character that I think you could revisit acknowledging the passage of time and his increasing age."

"It wasn't age dependent, that character, and his experiences were chock full of recipes for good engaging movies," Ford continued. "So that's a character I wouldn't mind revisiting."

This fourth installment struck me as a Temple of Doom rehash more than a Raiders rehash... if that makes any sense. Still a fun popcorn movie, just not a great popcorn movie.

Nothing necessarily wrong with that I guess... It's just that I was hoping for something... I dunno... more substantial with less over-the-top desire for goofy. Especially when the story itself isn't heavy enough to require copious comic relief to begin with. It's not as if this aspect ruined the movie... but yea... it unfortunately was the overall letdown that I was expecting it to be... and part of that I'm sure is my own fault.

Saw the movie. Liked it, for the most part. Considering both Lucas and Labeouf were involved, both people who have made movies hard to watch, there were no "is this really a nessesary scene?" moments.

Things I liked:
Shia playing someone compitent. Very few "Nonononono!"s. An actual personality not based entirely on squirelly teen hormones.
Karen Allen, unlike in the original movie.

Things I disliked, or which took me out of the movie experience at bad times:
For the first 20 minutes, they beat you repeatedly over the head with the 50's.

They asked for too much suspension of disbelief.
There are other points, but those were the ones that I noticed as I was watching.
Cate Blanchett- Man I hated that accent. And that wig. And the utter lack of sex appeal in a film where the only other woman is 50- something years old. Also, she was supposed to be a psychic, but sh never used her powers. Was this supposed to show she was a phony, or just bad writing?

Anyway, again, it was a fun movie, but it could make you roll your eyes if you're cynical.
