Quote from: TIMEWith so much TV, from reality shows to bad movies, the best entertainment is what happens in your living room. This basic-cable masterpiece raised talking back to the TV into an art form, as a human and his robot buddies were consigned to live on a satellite, watching lousy movies against their will. The team's rapid-fire references ranged from the scatological to the Biblical ("Give us Barabbas!" they shout over a crowd scene in Attack of the Giant Leeches). With other meta-TV shows like E!'s Talk Soup, MST3K was an example of what culture critic Steven Johnson called "information filters," or media about other media; it filled the snarky role of blogs before blogs existed. From the vantage of MST3K's lonely Satellite of Love, pop culture was hell, and heaven too.

The list also has Soap, Homicide: Life on the Streets, Monty Python, the original Star Trek and - most importantly - The Monkees.

So this list has cred as far as I'm concerned.   :)

It's also got "The Wire" on it.

Is that good or bad?

Because I know there were one or two that I didn't agree with.

Missing plenty of shows like Futurama and Mr Show though

It's not a perfect list.  I don't get how "The Real World" - a reality show that had nothing to do with reality - is on there, for example.

When has there ever been a reality show that had something to do with reality?  Is there some virtually-unknown REAL reality show that I'm not aware of?  If so, did you Tivo it? ???
Correction: the coat hanger should be upside down.

There's never been one. Because a real reality show about real reality would involve a bunch of real nothing. Reality is boring. The show would consist of a camera recording some guy doing his taxes and drinking beer. Perhaps at the same time. If he drank too much beer, it could be interesting. Nothing is funnier than watching someone trying to write and do math under the influence of alcohol. But he probably wouldn't, and we'd be stuck watching an hour of nothing. Er....where was I going with this?

Oh yeah. I hate reality TV.

Chaos

The closest thing to reality TV that covered real reality was The Truman Show... and we all know how THAT turned out...

What about Jackass?

Or honestly... Big Brother... which does prove the point on how boring reality is considering apparently they've added more and more gimmicks throughout the years

You mean besides that PBS documentary in the 1970's about the Loud Family?

You know and I know that the second a camera crew comes into the room, things change.  I think everyone realizes that on shows like "Kathy Griffin: The D List" people normally wouldn't talk to her like that if there wasn't a camera there - good or bad.  Either wanting to look good or wanting to show off.

But "The Real World" was the least real of any of them.  Putting a bunch of snot nosed kids into a loft they couldn't afford in their wildest dreams and as far as I know taking care of all their bills....that's not reality by a long shot on top of the cameras always being there.  Not for them or any of us.

(Big Brother isn't "reality" and I don't think claims to be, really.  That's a competition.)

It's Official. MST3K is one of the top 100 tv shows ever created according to Time Magazine.

Of course, we already knew that.
