Some suggestions based on experience with ID4

Hi guys,

Love the riff trax but i've run into a problem with ID4. I have so far failed to get my hands on a theatrical release of the movie, which renders the riff trax I bought pretty much useless. I had the same experience with Fantastic 4.

Now, after reading the suggestion of someone else in the forums I went through and started inserting a bit of silence into the track (I normally rip the movie to DivX and remix the audio to make things easier for when friends come over and we watch the riff trax) but I ran into a problem trying to sync Disembodio up. During the scene where the alien goes crazy and kills everyone during the autopsy, there is a disembodio mark. The problem is that the scene is well underway at the point the sync mark is in the track. If Disembodio said stuff early on at the scene changes then I would have been able to edit the whole track pretty easily without ending up with talk about biometallic armour when they are talking to the first lady :( I pretty much gave up at that point because I couldn't figure out where to cut it and insert the silence. So it would be nice if this change was made, and it would also make the tracks more robust when dealing with and hand editing special editions and other things that have extra scenes that mess things up.

Also another disembodio suggestion. I don't know how you do that section of the recording, but it would be nice to be able to get a version of the rifftrax in stereo with disembodio in one channel and the riff in the other. Then when ripping and re-encoding the audio and video I can sync to the disembodio track and then throw that track away and change the other channel to mono, thus getting all the advantages of the sync marks without having them end up in the final product.

Just some suggestions to make the service better hopefully in a way that wont require significantly changing how you already do things if you happen to like the ideas.

Sorry that you encountered problems, thanks for the suggestions.

After you sync up the disembaudio lines, just highlight the disembaudio lines and insert silence in place of them.  Poof!  No more Disembaudio annoying you.

I don't think that changing DA's sync line placement in ID4 would help you since you don't have the theatrical version. There is something like a 9 minute difference. It is going to go out of sync unless you know what and where all the extra scenes are.

I think there are only 2 extra scenes.  One at the beginning in the White House and the other one is in Area 51.  So I think it is do-able.

Not quite, However IMDB is your friend in this case:

Quote* The first dialogue between President Whitmore and Constance Spano was extended.
    * A few sentences were added in the scene as Whitmore proposes to go to DefCon 3.
    * The first added scene is a dialogue between David Levinson and a colleague at the TV station. He explains that an unknown signal is responsible for the bad TV broadcasting and that he may be able to block this signal.
    * In the next extended scene Russell Casse meets his son after he was released from prison.
    * Up next the dialogue between Jasmine and Tiffany in the strip club was extended.
    * Then there is an extended dialogue between David and his father on the way to the White house. Right after this is an added scene in which David is searching for the number of Constance's handy.
    * Another added scene features David and his father in the oval Office. The father is talking about the persons who visited this office. Actors, football players and now himself...
    * Right after Jasmine found the truck, there is an added scene in which the illness of Russell's youngest son is described.
    * The next added scene features Jasmine as she drives the truck and some survivors through the destroyed city.
    * Later in Area 51 there is an added scene in which David Levinson and Dr. Brakkish Okun go into the alien spacecraft. Here the Doctor explains some of the alien technology.
    * As Captain Steven Hiller arrives with the alien visitor, a scene was added in which Russell asks for a doctor for his ill son.
    * The last extended scene shows Russell's daughter establishing a new friendship while the fight rages above Area 51.

That is why I thought moving the placement would work better. At least for future cases.

IT was actually working ok up till the specific scence in the autopsy room. Then by the time Disembodio said anything the scene was already miles out of sync. Just adding silence to the riff trax to resync it was working up until that point. It wasn't exact, but it was pretty good.

Well of course I could do that. I was just offering a suggestion to do it easily (depending on how it is added in in the first place) that would not make it easier to mix and remove disembodio without making the construction of the files any harder in the first place.

It was a suggestion for improving the product. Disembodio isn't especially annoying, it annoys my friends more than it annoys me.

When I mix the audio, I take the sync lines out as I go.  I dip the audio on the movie with each riff, so I'm going through the whole movie anyway.

Yeah, cuz I'm not happy with the way the program does it.  Sometimes it takes too much sound away on some things.  I like it to be just the right way.
I don't do it in one, two, or three sittings.
