Then why is he trying to hide?  Rather badly, I might add.

Actually I agree with you, in that I tend to enjoy the riffed movie when I do have some interest in and affection for the actual movie.  Because the movie is really still the bulk of what's hitting your ear and eye holes. It's the meat of the event, and the riffs are like seasoning.  Yes, sometimes they can take a D-grade piece of meat and make it palatable, even good.  But I like it better when a pretty good B-grade movie is made into a heavenly dish.  (And Joe Don Baker makes his own gravy.)

With Matrix I do enjoy the movie, but I enjoyed the extra layer of tweaking very much too.

I do a little of all at once...
Grapes? I hate grapes, I can't stand grapes. I loathe grapes. All kinds of grapes. I hate green grapes and I hate purple grapes. I hate grapes with seeds, I hate grapes without seeds. I hate them peeled and nonpeeled. I hate them in bunches, one at a time and in small groups of twos and threes.

Did not read the whole thread, so forgive me if I repeat what's been said.

Riffing B-Z grade movies just presents more opportunities for jokes. I think they should look for more "Big B Movies," like 5th element and road house. Those two movies represent just the right combination of availability and shittiness. I haven't watched the riffed Island Of Dr. Moreau yet but from what I remember of the movie it seems like an excellent choice.

Personally I'm looking forward to the film crew dvd project. Those look like some choice Z grade movies.

I think one mans B movie is always someone elses A movie.I love The 5th element and watching it with the rifftrax just gives me a different perspective on the film,it does not "spoil" the film for me.LOTR is obviously a great film as well and I will watch it with and without the Rifftrax many times. However I find Halloween very tedious and have only watched it twice upto now,I will watch it again though, but not as often as the films with some entertainment to them. There is no way I am going to buy Crossraods so I have a downloaded copy. Also I would not buy any cheesy christmas movies.I reckon the more "good" movies the better (imho),then at least I will get some extra enjoyement from the film.Anyway at least with Firewall I can watch Mary Lynn Rajskub  ;D

I thought I was the only person with a crush on Mary Lynn. Course, mine come from being a Mr Show fan.

I would never say never.  I think any movie is riffable and I think it's ridiculous to say a movie shouldn't be riffed just because it might be considered a "classic".  As long as the movie takes itself seriously, it's a prime target for comedy.  There are probably some exceptions.  For example, it might be impossible to riff during specific scenes in movies like Schindler's List or The Accused without coming across as disturbingly unfunny.  And riffing on a movie that's a hilarious comedy might just be redundant.

Someone mentioned that they wouldn't want to listen to a riff track during a favorite film for fear (alliteration) the riffs would be permanently burned into their memory every time they tried to watch the movie again.  That's probably a legitimate concern.  I know I'll never be able to see The Matrix without thinking "cirque du so long suckers!"  :D

I posted this in the other thread but I'm reposting because the dialogue seems to have moved here.  I'd also like to mention that I remembered enjoying X-Men but I hadn't seen it in awhile and the riff track really pointed out to me how truly awful the movie really is.

I agree. Any film is riffable. I love Halloween-my all time fav Horror film. Kevin and Mike's riffs were spot on. Same with LOTR. Will it affect my subsequent viewing. Maybe in the short term, but not in the long run.
I have to tingal.

I may cover ground already touched on, but I think a compromise position is best.   With Star Trek V, you have a popular movie but the worst of the series.  You have the same situation with Phantom Menace.  I think that's the right balance.  A popular film, but also a film well know as lacking in some ways.   On the other hand, as a Star Trek and Star Wars fanboy, I'm so tickled to see my MST3K love and my love for those series combined (same with LOTR) that I'm in seventh heaven anyway.   If they do all the Star Wars films or all the Star Trek films, regardless of whether I think the film was a good one or not, I'm going to be laughing and enjoying myself.  There are many "favorite" films of mine that, after too many repeated viewings, I find my friends and I making fun of.   I say let the guys experiment.   If riffs on beloved films backfire, they'll find out soon enough.   I think they know their craft and the marketplace.  They aren't going to be doing "Schindler's List" or "Ghandi" anytime soon (I think!), because it's not got that magical combination of popularity and riffability.   I say keep an open mind remember "it's just a show, you should really just relax".

Is that true or are you being sarcastic?  If every statement on the board is sarcasm, then you're statement is sarcastic, but if it is sarcastic then not all statements are sarcastic then .  . . Nomad.  Error.  Faulty.  Must analyze.  Analyze.  ;D
