A friend of mine is working on this film... which, unfortunately means that i'm going to have to keep my mouth shut.

Then I shall live vicariously through the knowledge you have of what is going on that you won't share with anyone else, Rude.

the long undertow

I'm content to not care about the movie until something substantive is known about it.  Same with everything else that strings people along like this.  I honestly don't see how myspace pages for characters in the movie is going to lead to anything interesting, but I can appreciate other people enjoying the thrill of the search.  I just think it's dumb that they delay further information from coming out when it's supposed to be a scavenger hunt.  You'll basically know what they want you to know when they want you to know it, so it's essentially just like every other marketing campaign, just tweaked so you feel like you're making actual discoveries.  And then hyped because people overanalyze it and think they see demons in hair or think a certain frame spells r-o-b-o-t indicating what the monster is or mistake "It's alive" for "It's a lion" and think for some reason Voltron is destroying New York.  C'mon people!

Having said that,I think the concept is pretty interesting, but I'm concerned that it's just going to end up being a standard monster movie that only stands out because of it's Blair Witchery.  Some gimmicks feel too much like gimmicks.

For some reason I keep thinking this is going to be something like 'Signs' meets 'Blair Witch Project', which makes me nervous (I did not like Signs, Blair Witch was ok).  Not sure what the budget is on this movie but since it's coming out in January and doesn't have any major star power behind it (that I know of) I assume the budget isn't too big, which also means they might not be able to go as all out on the action scenes as some people might expect.  Also, if we're sticking with the characters, seeing the action through their eyes, we're confined by what they see.  So if they miss something, so does the viewer.  I think they'll deal with the invasion like Shyamalan did in 'Signs', on a smaller scale.  Not that thats necessarily a bad thing.   I just hope the monsters/invaders aren't defeated by water.
I've sort of fused Flashdance with MC Hammer shit.

All signs (Which I admit to only looking at in passing) point to giant monster movie, to me. If it is, then I'm very on-board. :^)

I want to see it. Unless it's Rosie O'Donnell's biography. In which case I will exit the theatre after throwing up multiple times.

Tripe

Is this the possibly Cthulhu thing I read Abrams was going to do?

Are you kidding? An epic bio-pic of a gigantic monster-rosie would be AMAZING

The movie is all but /officially/ confirmed to be a giant monster pic, so Pak won't be disappointed.

A few precautions about sites to ignore.... pay NO attention to the Ethan Haas was Right websites.... They have nothing to do with the movie.

YES! An American Kaiju Movie! Rejoice!

....wait....

NO! An American Kaiju Movie! Despair!

(The shorter way to say that: I've got miced feelings about this.)

J-Proof

Guess we'll all haveta see it and return to comment.....

I am going to have a hard time being objective about a movie that I have already convinced myself I will like....

I generally only have that problem when the movie has Jessica Alba.

In any case, I want to be excited, but I dare not be. If I go in with low expectations, I'll likely enjoy the movie more. Unless it manages to be worse than I expected, in which case I end up enraged. Still, it seems the healthier option.

Junkyard

Wait a minute....

I am currently watching King Kong Escapes, a crappy Toho sequel to King Kong which features Mecha Kong.

Last week, I watched Godzilla's Revenge.

Before that, Varan the Unbelievable.

What I'm getting at is, why do I care if a giant monster movie is good or bad? As long as they don't muck around with Mothra, Godzilla, Kong, Gamera, or King Ghidora, it SHOULD be good fun.

Hollywood, if you manage to screw up a Kaiju film.... AGAIN.... there is absolutely no hope for you.

Why?  Your friend obviously didn't.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. A Lovecraft movie? I would wet my pants. Where did you hear that, TripeHound?

Actually I think it was here somewhere, hang about.

Here it is, it was in What is your favorite H.P. Lovecraft story and/or film

Kind of liked The Shadow out of Time, in terms of story, but I haven't caught any of the movies that especially blew me away.  There's talk that Big Daddy Cthulhu might be making an apperance in J.J. Abrams next film, but nothing's confirmed.  Suppose that's old news now.

It was the first I'd heard of it indeed the only I've heard of it but still, intriguing. Also I'd prefer to see Dagon myself.

A major Lovecraft movie would be cool, but I doubt this is it. If they were doing something with Cthulhu I don't think they'd go with the camcorder gimmick - which makes up most of the film if what I've heard is correct.
