Heehee. I remember loving this limp-wristed T-Rex knockoff when I was like 10.

This was pretty cathartic:

The only really fun part of Godzilla: Final Wars

(Don't ask me what the guy in leather throwing the tantrum was about. Or the bad music. Or the video game graphics.)

You know, i get the impression that it's something particularly evil and sinister. It's also possible of course that I and everyone have been totally fooled and the movie is about a giant Barney the purple dinosaur who has gone psycho.

Hmmm.... I can roll with that, actually.

As Rodimus prime said "Possible... but not likely"... What?!

Seriously, if something that insane and absurd made it's way onto the big screen, are you telling me you wouldn't be first in line at the theater?

Principal_Skin-trade

If I judged movies to be great by how insane they were, then I would have gone to the premiere of the big lebowski.

RobtheBarbarian

Hmm... I don't think it's Cthulu-related, simply because I assume that something Lovecraftian would have more dignity than to take the trite path of going after the Statue of Liberty like so many other monsters. It's like knocking down the Hollywood sign.

Tripe

That's true, the old ones aren't really New York kind of things. They prefer quaint little fishing villages and the like.

Pak-Man

If this advertising campaign is successful (And it's got people talking at least) I wonder how long it is before every movie I go to see has a bunch of trailers for movies that I don't know what movie they are. :^)

I sort of hope this doesn't happen. There's only so much intrique the human brain can digest before it, like everything else, becomes old, boring, and annoying.

In other words, prepapare for Hollywood to embrace cryptic trailers whole heartedly and completely.

Variety of Cells

It would be like the episode of South Park where Cartman gets his own theme park.  They advertise the fact that you can't know what this movie is about until they finally release it.  "What's this movie about?  Wouldn't you like to know!"

I personally think this is pretty cool.  It's interactive and it's creepy,  because you have no idea what you are going to find.  And they give you so little information that your mind is left to dream up truly horrifying situations.  Which, as was mentioned earlier, will probably be scarier than the actual movie.

If every movie started advertising this way, I feel it'd be more like my first example.  But I seriously doubt that this will catch on.  The average person does not have the time or curiosity to play these games and sit and speculate.  They might think the trailer is cool when they see it, but without a name or any information to hold on to, it will slip quickly from their memory.

It's already sort of happening that way.... the viral marketing campaign for 1-18-08 has resulted in several websites for other viral marketing campaigns being mistaken for 1-18-08's.....

Won't be long before we have no idea what we're lining up for....

A "secret" trailer for a new Aliens movie is released at around the same time a "secret" trailer for a Jane Austen is released, and comedy ensues.

Apparently "J.J. Abrams revealed this poster before leaving the stage." at a comic-con.

Seems to promise giant monster.

Now, this is just a thought, but back in the mid 90's, Toho Studios, having decided to themselves take a break from Godzilla, loaned out the radioactive lizard to an American studio, and they made the hated "Godzilla 1998." Well, Toho has again decided to take a break from Godzilla. It's been three years sinse the last film.

.....might Toho have learned to forgive?

I admit, this one's a long shot, and I'm not sure if I'd be happy if it were true. But I will put it out there.
