Yeah, but Korea already ripped off Godzilla 1998 with Reptilus. No one would be mad enough to do it twice, would they?

WOULD THEY?

The Host? Something that sounded nothing like what the monster was, anyway. :P

That'd be the one, excellent film but yes oddly named. The archer Aunt was cute as a button.

I'm detecting a lot of hate for this movie and I can't see why. I think it looks pretty cool myself. Can someone explain the venom directed at this movie in this thread?

Healthy pessimism.

I plan on seeing this, in any case.

At least part of it comes from its similarity to the Blair Witch Project, which also featured a shaky (a.k.a. vomit inducing), consumer-cam viewpoint, and a completely lame ending. Basically, we're already skeptical of the movie due to the style in which it is being filmed, and worried that we'll treated to yet another uninformative, lame ending where the monster of the film is never really exposed.

Okay I understand a little more. I've never seen The Blair Witch Project, so maybe that's why i'm excited to see this movie. :)

I don't know, I guess Blair Witch Project was okay for a student film project and all.

...yeah, only it wasn't a student film and it had a theatrical release...

Oh...then it eats.

Yeah so, ripping off a Mike and Kevin bit aside...the idea of telling a story through the cameras of the characters was interesting, and it held promise.  I'm willing to see if this movie will learn from Blair Witch's mistakes and actually get a good story out of it...and you know...complete it.

Well, I liked Blair Witch, and I'm also excited about this film.

As for the pessimism, well, like Banky says in Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back, "That's what the internet is for....slandering others anonymously!"

I liked Blair Witch too.    I am hoping the ENTIRE movie is not shown via camcorder of course.

People love to hate on this forum.  Oxymoronic, I know.  Thats why you see more threads about hating movies than loving them.  And I will be the first to admit that I probably hate more things than I like.

I was bieng threated with death by wolf raping before it was cool!.

I've noticed that about myself too. It's definitely something to think about... is it just because life's a bitch and there are genuinely more irritating things around us than there are lovely things?

Yes. :)

*phew* Then it's not just me.

I wonder why though. My first thought is that modern society is like a straight jacket, surrounding us in misery and toil until the sweet release of death, but was there ever a time when life wasn't like that? Sure, back 500+ years ago life was hard, but you could get away like  you can't anymore.

Chaos

Well, the inherent problem with modern society is that we are a society driven and controlled by business. And fear is good for business (if you make somebody afraid of something, they will buy whatever you tell them will protect them from it), hence we are a society of fear. Everything is centered around that. The news terrifies us to get ratings so we will watch the commercials they air and bring them revenue. The government terrifies us to keep us complacent. Businesses terrify us so they can sell us their products. Entertainment businesses offer us brief respite from terror so that we will gorge ourselves on their offerings in a desperate attempt to escape.

There's a lot of crap out there as a result, and it takes a concentrated effort to avoid it.

I can account for this firsthand, because I have SEEN Canada's media and entertainment industry slowly morphing to be more and more like America's over the past 10 years. When I first came here, it was very different... but nowadays it's getting harder and harder to tell them apart.

Everyone seen the new trailer? It looks pretty good - personally, I like the Blair Witch style.  Oh, there's a 5 minute clip at this link:
