The stinger I put on my DVD was when Maverick is face to face with Iceman in the locker room:

Are you putting the stingers in after the end credits?
Do you have a chapter for it in case you want to skip the credits and jump to it?

Since Mike doesn't riff the credits, I don't include them (except of course Road House).  What I do is a slow fade-to-black soon after Mike signs off, and then just pop the stinger in right after that.  I don't put a chapter on it though.

There's no way there could be a better stinger than that.  Maybe next would be a second or two of the scene where Iceman and the other dude are "going steady," or maybe a bit from the Great Balls of Fire scene, though that is pretty stomach-turning.

The choice moment that sticks out like a bunion for me is during the dogfight when Cruise begins rubbing his dead pal's ID tags and says, "Talk to me, Goose."

Goose, unlike Obi Wan Kenobi, was unable to establish a connection to his buddy.  He obviously needed a more dependable wireless service.

How about Just the part where Tom Cruise says "And You think I'M Reckless?!", but just cut the audio track so that all he says is "I'm reckless!!!"?
