I didn't observe the "perception based appearence" thing in any comic I've ever read. Ever. And I've read FF books form almost every period. I'm not saying it couldn't be, I'm just saying that it may be an obscure thing. I'm willing to bet that if G turns out not to be the cloud, he'll still be pretty vauge when he's shown.

I believe the concept comes from the Marvel handbook, and not from any actual comic, but it helps me accept the big guy's appearance, so I go with it. On the other hand, I've yet to hear a good explanation for why Norrin rides a surfboard through space beside "Jack thought it'd be cool." He was right, of course, but it doesn't make sense.

Yeah, Kirby had a few... interesting things buzzing around in the old noggin. By the way, I see you're abusing that Flag Function. Unless you really are over in Kazakhstan.

There. Is that better?

Just make sure you keep that thing up for the entire 6 month excursion, otherwise we will all be forced to assume that you froze to death in the barrens outside of camp.

No matter how many glowy things you add to a giant white man's hat, he's still a giant white man in a funny hat.

Well, in this game it looks awesome.
Being a genocidal maniac is not one of my turn ons.

Is it weird to hear the Safety Dance in my head watching Game of Thrones?

Oy... Part of me says, "What, you're ashamed of Galactacus?! Don't be wimps, movie makers!" but the other part of me says, "So... the embodyment of cosmic death in the universe is... a big white guy in a huge hat and a purple mini skirt?"

I'm afraid the cloud was really the best descision.

I have to agree. A non-anthropomorphic incarnation of doom is far superior. Silver Surfer gave enough of a human touch to the "stoic harbinger of doom" bit. Galactus was Nemesis, Death, Ending. It was a storm cloud, but there were just the subtlest hints of the organic, the points of storm reaching out like teeth or tendrils, the howling winds that were almost a bestial roar. It was a perfect mix of natural disaster and unknowable alien life-form. Anthropormorphized things are easy to ridicule.

True. I think the cosmic stormcloud approach is the best of both worlds. A shiny naked man on a magic surfboard is enough for audiences to swallow.

I just saw Rise of the Silver Surfer, and I have to say, wow, that was godawful.  Plus, the movie was a little too subtle with its point that Reed and Sue were getting married.  I think they should have had the whole hour and a half to dwell on their relationship, which is truly the most passionate duo to ever hit the screen.   Take THAT, Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman.

Also, is Jessica Alba always that terrible?  God, she makes Halle Berry in the X-Men look like a master class in the fine points of acting.

Pretty much. Although she does better when her character is more of a symbol for others to place meaning upon, like in Sin City. When she has to place a ton of complex emotion she's not really all that good.

Digan, you... you just suggested that Halle Berry could give acting pointers? A-and Triplehoundredux- you AGREED?
Alba may be bad, but that's just blasphemy.

No, I agreed with Alba sucking ;D

I modified the quote to include just what I'm agreeing with.

But if that's true, why exactly would people percieve in incarnation of destruction, entropy, and cosmic hunger as some giant guy with a purple helmet?
