I enjoy the bizarre nature of people's idea that popular crap is somehow crappier than unpopular crap.

Well, Amanda does have a point.  It's easier to passively not like something.  Something that isn't popular, you usually aren't exposed to, so you don't really spend any energy not liking it.  But when something is a really popular show, or movie, or book, whatever, suddenly you're reminded of it on a regular basis.  Not to mention you're being told by friends, award shows, and commmercials that you should like it.  So now you have to actively avoid it, explain why you don't like it, and that type of behavior can breed even more contempt for the item you don't like.

I never said it was crappier.  Show me where I said it was crappier?  It's no more crappy than Passions or whatever garbage is on Daytime.  On the other hand, I love when people pretend that something is better than it is (ie: not  a soap opera) just because it's a popular "drama."  Try comparing it to daytime TV to a Grey's fan.  Watch their head's explode  :)

I said I hated it more, in essence, because it's fans are more annoying.  Like Jack says, it's a lot easier to dislike something that is annoyingly thrown at you all the time.

Personally, I want to watch it because I am looking forward to hearing Bridget riff a movie... which is something we've never ever seen/heard before.
I think the show wouldn't have been chosen if Mike didn't think it would make good riffing material. Therefore, I say bring on Gary's Antanomy!!!!!!

Gary can keep his anatomy to himself thanks,...  ;D

My question is as follows:

Is everyone buying "Light Black's Anatomy" complete first season?  Or is there a way to avoid giving Patrick Dempsey ANY more money and just getting the first two eps otherwise?

I've done my research... the pilot episodes are not on dvd anywhere, and even if they were I would imagine they would run $20. You can get the whole first season for only $20 right now anyways so it's a moot point. Anyways if you really don't want to spend much, I would go to my local rental store and just rent the first disc of the first season.   :)

I'm a TV whore, so I'll gladly confess to having seen every episode.  The cast is pretty good - though Ellen Pompeo's face is odd, it looks like she has palsy, or something - and while it's nothing ground-breaking, it's pretty solid for a soap.  It is however, extremely depressing.  And with Kate Walsh leaving the show, season four might not be something I tune into.

Gray's will be the second time I've turned to Netflix for a Rifftrax fix with Lost being the first.  I usually prefer to own a copy of the video but these are both shows that I watch and enjoy, just not enough to want to own the DVD set.
It took me a long time to convince myself to try Netflix but I'm completely sold on it.  My closest return center is only 90 miles away so the turnaround on new vids is only 3 days and I've seen no sign of the slowdown that others have reported if they over-do their "unlimited" number of rentals.  Only 1 of about 40 videos was obscure enough that it was only available from a Carolina return center and took a couple extra days.

As far as Grey's Anatomy goes,  I'm not surprised it's popular with med students.  It's a more heightened experience than what they really go through but that would be the fun of it.  I'm reminded of how law enforcement officials talk about tv cop shows whenever they're interviewed about them.   They know that that's not the way things really work but a show about people doing paperwork just wouldn't be very interesting.  And what's not to like about Katherine Hagel?
I'm looking forward to Bridget riffing along with Mike.  I know it's not likely but wouldn't it be funny if she was a fan of the show and kept defending it through both episodes?

My sister is completely addicted to this show.  I just used one of the promotional codes on Deep Discount to buy her the second series.  However, my two closest gal friends can't stand this show.  It'll work out for at least the three of us.  I can gank my sister's DVD's and have a girl's night out with Rifftrax.  And since my sister is currently burning through "How I Met Your Mother," she'll be none the wiser about this.  (Oh, if only it were coming out around the same time I'd get my copies of Crossroads and Glitter.  *That* would be a girl's night out to remember.)

I guess I should remind everyone again that it is available on iTunes.  I did this for Lost and synch was horrible when I played both together on my computer but a bit better (still off a little) when I played on my MP3 player and TV.  iTunes is $1.99

You can also get them on abc.com but those don't synch well at all apparently.

Like some people did with Lost, you could just rent the first disc from Blockbuster, then just keep the disc.  Probably wont cost you more than $10 (the receipt will tell you exactly how much it will cost if you keep the disc).

I was pleasantly surprised by the "Woo Woo" kid, I thought he did the best job acting on the first two episodes.  The female lead was a blank...Katherine Heigel had more depth and charisma....and that's not saying much.  Never let your lead get out-acted by the second bananas.

I never fully understood the TV series in DVD box set phenomenon. I can accept older shows that just don't get airtime on TV... and I guess I can see comedies where you can just pop in your favorite self-contained episode here or there when the mood strikes you... But full blown serial dramas? Are there people out there that are that devoid of things to do to fill their day that they will rewatch entire seasons of a show that aired last year?!? I guess if you really wanted to rewatch that one fight scene that Dr.McCheese and SkeletorGal had... or if you were so obsessed with continuity that you had to go back and review previous plot points.... or if you're like Nelson and don't watch broadcast television... but I can't imagine any of those scenarios supporting this segment of the industry... It just baffles me.

All that said... my wife caught wind of the Grey's riff from a buddy of mine... and now I've been tasked to find the cheapest way to obtain Season One... even when I really, really WANT to skip a rifftrax I get pulled back in somehow... DAMN YOU NELSON!!!!!
