Who loses?

The american viewing public.

Although, for a change at least, there are multiple movies out in theaters I have some interest in seeing.

Quotejust hope Ratatouille bombs... I saw the trailer and it looks so massively stupid with obvious jokes, pratfalls that have been done millions of times before in the same vein. Of course, since most of you already are aware of my intense dislike of Disney you already know what I think.

calling a pixar film a disney film is like calling a diamond, talc, because they are both rocks.

what poll?  pirates has 4 times as many.

Brad Bird's got a good track record with The Iron Giant and The Incredibles, so I'm hoping Ratatouille will overcome the bad title and find an audience.
A lot of those movies are "winners."  Why should I give a shit which one does the most business?  That makes as much sense as worrying about which movie wins more Oscars.

I'm going to say the Simpsons movie. I don't know how big it's fanbase is compared to Spideys, but I think it will put up a pretty substantial fight.

I thought I heard on the radio that Pirates 3 made less its opening weekend than the last one.

Yeah - Pirates made the record for Memorial Day openings, and made $142,031,000 domestic. It made $335 million worldwide, which didn't beat Spidey's worlwide opening gross of $381.7 million, nor did it beat the Dead Man's Chest opening of $153,774,825 domestic. The future looks good for Pirates, however, because "Shrek the 3rd" and "Spider-Man 3" are both losing a lot of steam, attendance dropping severely after both movies' opening weekends.

We'll have to wait until Spidey and Shrek are off the screen to see where pirates stands in "winning" the blockbuster war for this summer. Though one thing can be certain, the next Spidey movie will be hard pressed to find competition from Captain Jack =)   That is, unless rumor of another PotC movie proves true!

When's the next "big" movie supposed to come out?  I know we have Knocked Up and Ocean's Thirteen in the next few weeks, but I can't imagine either of them toppling Pirates.  In theory, Pirates should benefit from less competition for a full month.  Spiderman 3 and Shrek 3 didn't have that advantage.

Harry Potter and Transformers are the next big-budget blockbusters set to come out. We shall see..... I think many people are simply getting fed up with Harry.....

I don't think Order of the Phoenix will come close to winning at the box office, but I gotta admit, the trailer for it looks amazing.

How so? From what I've seen, the movies have pretty consistently improved in quality with each subsequent installment.

I am going to go out on a limb and say that Transformers will bomb bigtime.
Not that it will not be a good movie, with good first weekend numbers, but I don't think
there is a market for it.
I mean, how many Transformers T-Shirts have you seen in the last 10 years???
How many Transformers refrences have you found in pop culture?
At the last Comic-con or SciFi Con how many people have you seen dressed as a Deceptacon?
And that's all the foreshadowing we can afford.

I disagree. They're trying to cram increasingly longer books into the same amount of screen time. The result is an incoherent incomplete production. If you haven't read the book, you'll have no idea what's going on, and if you have you'll be disappointed by the things they've bungled or left out altogether.
