Well, Viddly had a nasty Easter gift today. I was in the middle of downloading some videos from YouTube when Viddly issued an update. And as anyone using Viddly knows, when they issue an update, they won't let you use your Viddly app until you download the update. What was the update? A three video daily limit, despite the app being on your PC and not using their site. Which meand you must pay $7 a month for the pay version of Viddly if you want to download more than three videos a day. Oh, and they made a deal with YouTube so that their apps no longer download videos unless you have a YouTube Prime account. Which is another $9 a month. So basically that app is no longer any good. The 4k Downloader still works, but still has a 5 video monthly limit for their free version. Both began as freeware from programmers looking to provide a free affordable YouTube downloading app, before both being bought by greedy companies.  What I want to know is are there any free apps currently out there with no ridiculous limits or no stupid watermarks to get you to subscribe to a pay version. I already did try pay apps in the past, and all three were rip offs that stopped working shortly after I paid for them. So, is there still anything free out there, or at the least reliable?

I use this: https://en.y2mate.is/v17/
Only issue is the pop-ups. They're annoying as hell but if you have a good virus protection (I use Malwarebytes), it blocks them. Then just go back to the downloader page and save your YouTube video.
Rename it after it's downloaded.

I use this one:

https://www.4kdownload.com/

Gives you multiple size options and choices.

OOO I might have to give this one a try :o

Yeah it is pretty simple to use and the free version gives you like 30 downloads a day. You can download to MP4 or MKV. MKV gets you UHD and higher frame rates too.

UPDATE
Tested out the two suggestions this weekend and have the results.
Y2Mate

Not really fond of the idea of using a website to download videos, as they were problematic at best in the past. But this one was quick, didn't crash when I used it, has no mention of any limits, and can do something Viddly and other uploading apps were unable to do, upload videos tat are age restricted. I was able to get it to upload the music videos WAP and Slumber Party with no problem. It has one problem though. It blocks some accounts from uploading videos, for what I assume is for copyright reasons. Here is what happens when I try to upload a SNL skit:

So it can't upload everything.

4K Video Downloader+

For a second I assumed this was the similarly named Jihosoft 4K Video Downloader which I already have, but rarely use due to it's 5 video limit per month on the free version.  This has a 30 video limit per day on the free version, which isn't bad, except for the occasions when I do need to upload more than 30 videos in a day.  In my test run I discovered a flaw. Some videos on Youtube are for some unexplained reason uploaded with a mystery codec that no program recognizes. No player can play the video, and Format Factory, Nero, Avedimux and Handbrake cant convert it to anything.  It seems to happen with random videos, and no matter how many times you attempt to upload them, you get the same result. So basically I need to rely on both downloaders because each has videos the other can't download.

Sunday stuck in the house with a snow storm. Decided to download a few videos from YouTube, and see which downloaders still work. I had a few downloaders installed. A couple of pay ones which stopped working and provided no free updates. A few freeware ones which were bought out and  became subscription, either requiring a subscription upon update or doing the scummy thing and updating without your permission and removing the freeware version upon update. Currently the only installer I am using is called the 4k Video Downloader which on the free version only allows ten downloads per day. That one I use as a last resort for any videos too big or two protected to download on the websites. But every few months whey YouTube finds a new way to vex the downloaders by altering their code, you will need to update which always risks the downloader removing free downloads or further shrinking the daily limit. Had to update it this weekend because it no longer registers as signed into YouTube and no longer downloaded videos. The free update still allows ten daily downloads. I could pay for a subscription, but with my past track record, every time I pay for a downloader, VPN or any service, the company either goes out of business or capitulates to a lawsuit and blocks do0wnloading copyrighted content upon update.  So how are the free ones doing? I had a couple I previously used which  are now dead links. Not sure if they were sued out of business, or simply didn't get enough traffic to stay in business.

Socialplug
when it works, it works. But there are a lot of random videos which cant be downloaded. Also, has a 3 video per hour limit, which is for some reason not inforced until you try to download a blocked video. After that, you need to wait an hour before trying again.

YT Video Downloader
A new one I found which worked two weeks ago. No longer works. Tried it and got this message:

Error: Failed to get video info: ERROR: d7glwJ5yd20: Video unavailable. This content isn't available, try again later. Your account has been rate-limited by YouTube for up to an hour. It is recommended to use `-t sleep` to add a delay between video requests to avoid exceeding the rate limit. For more information, refer to https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp/wiki/Extractors#this-content-isnt-available-try-again-later

ytb.rip
Promises everything for free. Tried it on several videos and got this message:

Legal disclaimer: Before using this tool, you must own the rights to this video or get permission from the owner.

Social Cat
Tells you right up front. 1 free download per day • Premium for unlimited access.

Y2Mate
One of those sites that does not give an F who they allow to advertise, so with every click on anything, you will be redirected to a page which attempts to get you to further click a button to prove you are not a bot, which installs malware. Has ads which ask you to select an  image to prove you are not a bot, which downloads malware. Has a "Click here to download" button which is really a redirect advertisement.  You need to switch it from MP3 only to MP4 to download videos. This one is a chore, as you will have to close a lot of redirect pages before it works. But it does work. Just not anything age restricted, private, or any other video you need to be signed into YouTube to watch.

y2mate.com
Different site with lower case instead of capital letters. Probably same company, but with different page layout. Same exact problem with advertisers trying to get you to download malware. Cant download log in videos either.

Downr.org
Works. But something is wrong with the video that you can not advance it on playback, suggesting minor corruption in the file.

Media Mister
Requires you to download video and audio separate, and then later recombine them in a video editor. Often refuses to download videos for copyright reasons. often can't download any age restricted or sign in videos.

Clipto.AI
This seems to work all the time, although there was one video it could not do. Sticks a logo screen at the end of the video which is annoying.

PostSyncer
No audio on any video download.

TurboScribe
Boasts about how great their tool is, but only offers low res downloads.

YTDown
Every video I tried I got the message: Missing or invalid YouTube URL. States it does not allow downloading copyrighted content.

Publer
This may take a few moments. Please DO NOT refresh or close this window!
After an hour of waiting, I gave up.
