The last two years Slurpee day was cancelled due to COVID.

This year Free Slurpee day was back. But I didn't score a single Slurpee. The first five locations I went to were out of business. Probably for more than a year. Finally found a 7-11 that had not gone out of business, and they were not participating in the promotion. Next location, out of business. Next location not participating. Next location not participating. Next location closed, possibly out of business as 7-11s are supposed to be open 24 hours. Next location insisted there was no Slurpee day this year. Finally gave up. The 7-11 corporation allowed each store to opt out due to the continuing COVID pandemic. Big mistake as most 7-11 stores never wanted to hand out the free drinks in the first place, and eagerly opted out.

Hope you were walking because you probably could have bought a lot of slurpees for less than it cost to drive to that many locations. Not sure we have any 7-11s in this state. Certainly don't in this area. The one time I really wished we did was when the Simpsons movie came out and some 7-11s temporarily changed their signs to Kwik-E-Mart and were selling squishees and Duff beer.

Walked. Every year I arrange to have my fieldwork take place on July 11th so that I am in Manhattan during Free Slurpee Day. Also, because clients usually take their vacations during the week of the 4th and are not out of town a week later. In Manhattan 7/11s are as common as a CVS. But this year they were either out of business, or opted out of participating.

I originally began my annual FSD trek a decade ago when most 7/11s didn't participate. Basically me and a bunch of other members of the SFN website reporting whenever we found a participating store and it's location. Eventually 7/11 made FSD mandatory, so it became less of an adventure and more of trying to see how many flavors I could sample in one day. Last two years it was cancelled due to COVID. ( which didn't matter as they took place on a Saturday then a Sunday when I would not be in the city. )  It was supposed to be back again this year.
