(blows dust off account)

Well, E3 got cancelled this year, but that doesn't mean that we still aren't getting press conferences!

So far, we've have the following leaks:
*Sony is doing another Last of Us remaster. Yes, again. Full priced, of course. And apparently working on a PC version, which is good news for the console-less.
*Steam accidentally revealed a Forza Horizon 5 expansion on the way. Once again, it's a Hot Wheels collaboration. The one done in FH3 was quite good.
*There's a new Postal game, which is already out.
*There are strong rumors that Bethesda's Starfield is almost done and will have an early 2023 release.

And on Wednesday, the OTKExpo announced the following:
*Smite is doing a crossover with Runescape, because sure. Why not?
*There's a 3rd person PVP archery game, Project Sparrow, now in early access on Steam.
*Minigame Madness, which is certainly not inspired by Mario Party
*Agent 64, retroware spy game which is certainly not inspired by Goldeneye

Summer Games Fest

Yeah, yeah. Stop yapping, Geoff. Also, we've been told there will be no Half Life 3 announced

*First up is Street Fighter game play. And roster. Guile has a goatee, because, why not?
*New game- Okay, those are M41A1 pulse rifles. And there's the xenomorphs. Aliens Dark Descent. From the folks who did the recent Left 4 Dead-ish Aliens game (Future Me- It's a co-op top down shooter)
*Callisto Protocol- the Dead Space-ish game from former Dead Space people. Dec 2. Nice bit of gameplay with the hero using a grav gun to toss a monster into a giant fan.
*Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2- some gameplay on an oil rig. Didn't I do this mission? I remember British people running around an oil rig shooting things in a past one of these.
*Back from the dead- a 30 year later sequel -Flashback 2. This winter. You remember Flashback, right?
*Witchfire. First announced in 2017, it's apparently ready to go. It's a dark fantasy FPS.
*Another new game-Fort Solis. No real idea of what the game is like, but Troy Baker is in it. Roger (Arthur Morgan) Clark too. Troy describes it as "Dead Space meets Duncan Jones' 'Moon' "
*Another World Premiere- We're on the Moon. Crawling through air ducts and fighting robots this time. Routine. First announced a decade ago.
*The Rock arrives, via phone. His weight room does not have enough weights. And Dwayne gives his energy drink a plug. He's in Stardew Valley now!
No, just kidding.  He's here to promote Black Adam.
*Goat Simulator 3 did a fake out trailer that starts in the same way as Dead Island 2 did, faking me and many others out. At least until the goats arrived.

Oh, hey. a bunch of stuff got erased. Cool. Well, there's about an hour of snark gone.
Let's see what I can remember. Cup Head DLC. Marvel Midnight Suns. The Genshin Impact folks have two games, including one with a space train and space baseball bats. Space. Baseball. Bats.
Layers of Fears. Gotham Knights. Returnal. Saint's Row. Stormforge, a RTS from ex-Starcraft folks. Gotham Knights. Hellsinger, a FPS where you need to kill stuff to a beat.

*Oh, the TMNT:Shredder's Revenge game adds Casey Jones to the roster and gets a 6 player mode so that you can really not tell where your character is on screen. Out next week.

*Naughty Dog shows up to talk about Last of Us. The remaster. the TV show and a co-op multiplayer game set in SF. And apparently Troy and Ashley are in the TV show, but not as their characters.
*Oh, One Piece Odyssey, which appears to be a RPG with the One Piece crew, rather than the usual beat-em up.

Oh, and Time Flies. You're a fly. You'll die in about a minute. Do stuff.

More updates!
*Bear and Breakfast- You're a bear. You're running a B&B.
*Fall Guys goes F2p on June 21.
*Fortnite added an "Among Us" type mode to the game last year and is now adding actual Among Us gear as back bling. So, if you'd like Darth Vader to run around shooting his Tommy Gun while a green among us toon is on his back, here's your chance.
*Humankind gets a latin American pack and is coming to consoles.
*An actual Stardew type game, this one is set in the Stone Age-  Roots of Pacha. Demo out now
*Star Trek Prodigy: Supernova. Oct 14. Not having Paramount +, I have apparently missed all coverage of this show, including that of its existence. I will apologize to Marrissa Picard now.
*Neon White- a FPS card builder game with sinners freed from Hell to fight in Heaven. Out soon.

Pak-Man

Devolver Digital in 45 minutes, but I have a dentist appointment. So I'm going to miss any Monkey Island-Related freak-outs.

Compound

Sadly, there was no news on a return to Monkey Island.  Plucky Squire looked neat though.

Well, Epic's showcase arrived at the same time as the Twitch showing of Berzerker: Hell's Warrior did, so that took priority. Here's some news from teh day:

Epic:
*LotR: Return to Moria- looks like Minecraft with Dwarves and Roblox-y graphics
*Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed- Launches q4 2022. 4 v 1 Ghostbusters vs. a ghost
*PC Simulator 2- because we can't afford new computers right now
*Shoulders of Giants- A space frog piloting a mech fights outer space stuff. Later this year
*Goat Simulator 3 reappears, with a less zombish trailer
*Splitgate, which looks like Quake crossed with Portal
*Disney Speedstorm- racing but with Disney characters. No Split Second 2 Disney?
*Gigabash- Kaijus fight in a top-down destructible city - Aug 5
*Rawmen- it's a BR crossed with Katamari, I guess?
*Oh hey, Epic's got a game called Fortnite, I guess. Million dollar tourney in November
*Alan Wake 2- 2023

The Lurker

Compound

Oh, hey.

*Deadly Premonition 2 is no longer Switch exclusive. It got a surprise release on Steam today.
*Entropy Centre looks a bit like Portal 2, but with time guns and more annoying characters
*Apparently every indy game this fall has frogs in it.
*The Wholesome Games show had games where the little bear full of honey is a chef, more OOblets, Skate Bird (now with Among Us content) , puzzle games about making donuts, a Kaiju dating sim, a Rollergator game... oh. Sorry. A Little Gator game, several "Did you like Stardew Valley? Try this!" games, several "You're a young witch!" games, several "serve coffee' games, a beer making simulator, and about 6 games with frogs.

Okay, an actual show-stopper event. The XBox/Bethesda press conference.

*The show starts with some gameplay from Redfall, the L4D style game vs. vampires from Arkane. I'll note that the powers the various hunters have look like they'll make the gameplay a bit more interesting than say, Back 4 Blood's play. 2023
*Hollow Knight: Silksong. Gameplay. No release date given
*The Rick and Morty folks have an FPS on the way. High on Life. This October

Oh, hey. Actual people. Every game shown should be out in the next 12 months, including "The most anticipated RPG of the last 20 years"

*Riot Games arrives to announce that all of their games are now on Game Pass Yes, many are Free to Play, but this includes the ones that aren't. Plus the mobile games. And they've unlocked all the champions/ Agents/etc. as well. This winter
*A Plague Tale: Requiem. Later this year
*Forza. Looks like it's the track version's turn. Forza Motorsport. No numbers this time. Next year. Looks gorgeous too.
*Flight Simulator. Adding a whole bunch of new flying things, including historic planes, gliders, helicopters and giraffes, it seems. Not sure how well those fly. Oh, and the Spirit of St. Louis and the Halo dropship, which is available now.
*Blizzard. Overwatch 2. This October 4 for early access. And their new hero looks more like a Borderlands character than an Overwatch one
*Wooo! A turn based game! Ara: History Untold. Looks Civ-ish.
*ESO: High Isle- arrives next week. It's a look at the Breton areas for the first time
*Fallout 76 will be travelling to The Pitt in September.
*Forza Horizon 5 gets the leaked Hot Wheels expansion on July 19.
*And this looks like Ark. Arc? Well, it's on consoles next year
*Scorn. Grim looking FPS. Oct 21.
*"I intend to find out if you can kill a god. But first let me run away from these ostrich-looking things" Not the right message sent, folks. Flintlocke. Next Year
*From Mojang.  Minecraft Legends. Kinda RPG/RTS , I guess?
*Lightyear Frontier- Next spring. Builder/adventure game.  No Man's Skies-ish.
*A FPS action rogue-like, with furries- Gunfire Reborn. In October.
*The Last Case of Benedict Fox- Looks like "What if an HP Lovecraft character as in a Metroidvania?" Next Spring
*As Dusk Falls- an interactive story from ze French. Interesting visual style though. July 19. Apparently up to 8 players. That seems like a less than ideal way to play these types of games.  Like playing Life is Strange while one player keeps making the "burn everything to the ground" choices.
*Naraka Bladepoint comes to consoles.  June 23
*Next up another adventure game, but this one one in Medieval Illustrated graphic style. Pentiment. In November.

*Hey! It's Grounded! The "we're shrunk and in the yard" game that folks played nd then forgot about? Well, the actual full game arrives in September so you can actually play the full game.
*Space ninja. Spaaaaace. Ninja. Ereban: Shadow Legacy. 2023
*You're a necromancer.  And... Oh. It's Diablo IV. Yeah, this is not gameplay from that. So Rogue, Druid, Necromance, Sorceror, barbarian are the 5 classes. Thanks for announcing this in the Microsoft presser, Blizz. "It's an open world" Wait. What? Oh, Blizz. What are you doing?
*Sea of Thieves. Season 7. JUly 21. They had a jaunty song
*Ravenlok. Next year. You're a girl on an adventure
*Cocoon. 2023. No, not the diabeus one
*Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. From Koei/Temco. Next year
*Oh, a return to XBox- It's Atlus and.... Holy cow! Persona! Well, it's Persona 3 Portable. And 4. And Royale! Oh, hell yes. Royale October 21st. Others later
*And now, Kojima... who is working on something un named.

So, what's left? Oh. Hey. It's Todd Howard. And here's some gameplay from Starfield. And there's a lockpick mini-game, because of course there would be. It's looking promising? Even if a bit No Man's Sky mixed with Mass Effect. 100 systems. 1000 planets to explore.

Oh, and apparently Stalker 2 showed up in a screenshot, but did not get a segment.

FYI- Microsoft also has another conference on Tuesday, which is presumably about stuff outside of the 12 month window.

Prior to launch we saw a bunch of trailers- Crossfire Legion, Wake Up Sleeper, something about construction.  And about 20 minutes of listening to stories about a guy ganking people in Menethil Harbor.

*Soulstice, Sept 20. A souls-like? I guess?
*Rotwood. Kinda brawler/Castle Crashers-ish with animals.

*Demon School- a tactical turn based game loosely inspired by Persona. 2023

*Valheim coming to consoles and Game pass
*Also coming to Game pass- Texas Chainsaw massacre: The Game
*Fall Guys gets some Halo content
*And Stalker 2 is delayed until 2023 because apparently the devs have had their country invaded or something.
