Since X-men Apocalypse was... well, kinda bad I'm a little worried for Dark Phoenix. In the beginning X-men movies were good, then they became bad. Then they became great then went right back to being bad.

Are you using Logan as the example of great?

I was thinking more along the lines of First class and Days of future past, but I suppose Logan would count too.

Oh yeah, I forgot First Class! I loved that.  I remember not being a fan of DoFP, X2 was up there with Spider-Man 2 as a favourite non-Marvel Studios hero movie until all the Singer stuff came out

Okay the reviews from Rotten Tomatoes are starting to roll in and... 21% with 78 reviews. I was afraid this was going to happen. There were whispers here and there regarding rumors that the test screenings didn't go down so well. After the way Apocalypse played out I wasn't exactly filled to the brim with confidence regarding the future of X-men. What went so damn wrong? Simon Kinberg should have been a great pick to write and direct. I mean he worked on Deadpool, Deadpool 2 , Logan... but he also worked on X-men the last stand and X-men Apocalypse.

You know what, I have a philosophy. You might know it, It's called, if it ain't broke don't fix it! Just... get the writers/directors/producers of the most recent GOOD X-men movies and have THEM make a Dark Phoenix movie or movies(Ideally). God dammit Fox you need to do better next time, which honestly is now out of your hands if I'm being 100% honest. That being said I'm still going to see the movie and form my own opinion. Who knows? There's a small chance I might actually enjoy it in spite of the reviews. I'm not filled with hope, but when a score like that floats around in my head, most anything I see is probably going to be much better in comparison.

Honestly, the X-Men timeline is such a mess that they should just start over.

Pak-Man

I'm about 100% sure they're going to do just that after this. Now that Disney owns them, I think we can expect a hard reboot and careful integration into the MCU.

And maybe then someone can finally DO something with the Savage Land. It's just been SITTING THERE, confined to comic books. It's Jurassic Park meets Superheroes and I want to see Hulk tangle with a T-Rex.

Cyrusso

I don't think they're going to tackle Savage Land with the Disney-mandated reboot, but if I'm being honest things could go in almost any direction. Maybe they'll introduce the X-men in the next Avengers movie... and I know they've worked their asses off and are probably close to being trillionaires at this point but if they get back the Russo bros do to it that would be one hell of a way to start it all off in fashion.

the only way they should have the russos doing x-men is if there were a paintball battle on the grounds of xavier's school.

I find it funny that this is one of the things they, inadvertently, managed to carry over from the comics.

Whatever the next X-men movie is, I think a lot of its success is going to hinge significantly on whoever has the unenviable task of replacing Hugh Jackman.

they could do a reverse house of m thing, where wanda wishes so hard for vision to be back that mutants are created as a splash effect.

That doesn't sound like a bad idea, I'm just worried about how much exposition they would have to go through.

Which is why I think they would be best off keeping wolverine out of the first few X-Men movies. It would also help distinguish them from the other series.

Okay, I just got home a little while ago and... I thought Dark Phoenix was good! Could it have benefited a lot from being split into two or three movies? Well hell yes, in the early 90's I read a lot of X-men comics and watched the cartoon so I was very familiar with the Dark Phoenix Saga. Unfortunately I never got through reading it. Though... in any case I am extremely baffled at a 22% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. I mean... REALLY?! You know I was waiting the whole movie for some kind of bomb to drop and just cause the movie to cave in on itself. To my surprise, that never happened! At least IMHO anyway.

I think it is a HUGE stretch to say this thing is somehow worse than something like X-men The Last Stand, X-men Origins Wolverine or X-men Apocalypse. I got to say I am surprised because I am more than fully aware I have said that most of the time I agree with critics and this year I have already disagreed with the majority of them three times, once for Godzilla King of the Monsters, again for the Game of Thrones finale and now for Dark Phoenix.

I don't know what happened. Maybe it's a case of overinflated expectations or something. Yeah, Dark Phoenix could have better, but it was by no means the horrid garbage fire the goddamn critics seem to think it is.
