What did Season 11 do RIGHT?

DISCLAIMER: I've still got 5 episodes left. Life and a dangerously full DVR keep getting in the way of my binging, but from what I've seen so far:

Episode Choice! So far every movie has just that right flavor where I might actually sit through them without the riffs if I happened on them on Cable late one night. They're just the right kind of baffling for riffing without any deep hurting (So far. As I said, I have 5 to go..)

Jonah is super-hard to hate. He has this awesome affable quality that makes it easy to get behind his humor.

Love the commercial breaks and Max's summary of what's been going on so far.

I enjoy the tone. I think sometimes Rifftrax feels obligated to rip their movies a new one. Not to the point where it's mean-spirited, but there's an element of insult-comedy in the riffing. This season of MST3K, as I've remarked elsewhere, has been more about playing with the movies than it is about skewering them. I actually think it's a good move because it makes things more distinct. I'm getting something from MST3K I can't get from Rifftrax. Love 'em both, and I love that they're not going to congeal into the exact same place in my heart.

I love that it's easy to follow the movie. With old MST3K and sometimes still with Rifftrax, the Jokes have a tendency to step on the movie to the point where you might not entirely understand what's going on. Everything's still funny, but the movie is lost somewhere in a sea of jokes. They've taken great care to ensure that the movie is fully coherent (Or at least as coherent as it ever was.)

The door sequence is absolutely top notch.  Aside from looking slick, it tickled that nerd center of my brain that would like to see the rooms where the characters eat and sleep.  NOW IT CAN BE TOLD!

But what about other science facts!?

Iron Curtain

Okay, you all get RAM chips! RAM chips for everyone!

*tosses out RAM chips*

Another thing I liked was actually bringing back letters.  Sadly, it was only in the first episode, but assuming the show gets another season (I suspect it will), I would love more letters.  If they don't want to take up episode time with letters, I think they should have a weekly youtube segment devoted to it.  I guess this was mostly an "I wish" comment, but as said, I am glad they brought back the letters.

I second that wish. I would love to also see a weekly YouTube letters show. The fan interaction was one of the best parts of the classic MST3K IMHO and there are so many ways to bring it back now that we have social media and everything...

Plus the fact that the show has arguably never been closer to it's fans since they brought it back from the grave.  Which reminds me, I think its cool that they are doing a live tour, even though I can't attend (if they ever put it out on video, I'd be super grateful).

Yeah I turned around on the ad break parts, I like them now.

I like the idea of a YouTube mail segment rather than a show segment.

I liked:

The ad break bumpers. They're funny and I love Patton's delivery. I was really afraid they'd skip that since it's netflix but there they were.

I loved Gypsy dropping down into the theater and making a quick riff.

Crow is a good Crow (Tom too low energy, Jonah too spastic)

The opening song and sequence is well done and fun.

I like when Jonah gets sucked up and sent into the credit sequence.

The songs were good if a little too slick.

The door sequence is really good.

A solid choice of movies to riff from. Ones that would fit into the original series without being copy-cat.

I didn't know Luke Skywalker could be funny.

He's got a pretty famous funny character:

Didn't know about the Joker thing and I avoid anything with Yeti's with disturbing nipples in it (Simpson's I can see).

I guess it gives away my age but the only thing I know that he's been in besides Star Wars is Corvette Summer.

Actually, that's Skips from the Regular Show on Cartoon Network. Sorry, he's nowhere near as a pop culture mainstay as the Joker...

Iron Curtain

I've been thinking...

Considering that the live show in the form of the Watch Out For Snakes! tour "fixed" every legitimate complaint people had with the revived series, I'll concede that everything wrong with the series was everything in Season 11 that was "fixed". Except for Baron Vaughn as Tom Servo's voice. I love that guy.

(Yes, I realize he had to miss the tour due to paternity but unlike many others, I could easily recognize his voice due to the fact that I digitally own and listen to his comedy albums. And the Season 11 OST. So there.)

Pastor of Muppets

I liked the celebrity cameos.  It was the one thing that made this feel like a new show and not a fan work.

Felicia Day as the nemesis was good too.  She is always a delight.
I'm not particularly religious, and I don't really like Muppets, but I do love word play.
