Hair vs. beard, who wins?   The answer of course is no one, we ALL lose...

The short was hilarious.

The movie was laughable on it's own, with great riffs, so lots of good laughs.

I have to say, I felt a bit disappointed in this one. Pretty much a line-for-line repeat of the VOD with even more edits. Was hoping for more new material.
It is easier to destroy than to create.
More fun, too.

Ah, well, I had the advantage that I haven't watched the VOD yet.  I think I actually have it on my computer but got behind watching stuff last year.

Did Robert Z'Dar bring his own beard, or was that a fake one?

Trekker4747

Yeah, it was too much a repeat of the VOD for me, but still really enjoyed this.

I'm surprised they didn't mention how Z'Dar when he shows up at the horny police woman's house he was dressed like Michael Knight from Knight Rider.

Having not watched the VOD yet, I liked it a lot!  Was really not expecting it to be quite so penis-centric, but I guess that'll happen.

I guess I'm glad I didn't go. Samurai Cop is such an easy movie to make fun of that really a should have written at least 50% new jokes.

I didn't get the VOD, either, so I rather enjoyed the live show. I'm actually more interested in asking if anyone else caught the closing credits song - was that Mike, Bill, and Kevin singing? Albeit, none of them are professional singers [lol], but I thought the track was pretty fresh and original, and I'd love to get an MP3 file as a souvenir.

I posted this same thought on Google+; I don't think anyone actually pays attention to that account anyway, so I thought I'd bring my question here.

Long Tall Jodie

Yeah, it was a new RiffTones song.  They're apparently releasing it online soon.

They need to. It was a hilarious riff and that was the most awesome one of all. Everyone in the theater stayed to listen to it twice.

I saw the VOD, but only once and for me it lost none of the humor. But I've watched quite a few since then so I forgot a lot of the lines. So for some the repeat probably wouldn't be that great, but if you hadn't seen it I'm sure it was great.

And I learned a new word: banana hammock (missed understanding it the first go through)

A well-timed story: I actually got the MP3 for free from Kickstarter today. Yay! I don't remember reading that was part of making a contribution to the fund, but awesome nonetheless.

I've got a hard-to-phrase question for anyone willing to decipher it [lol]: A band will put out a studio album or a CD, and then years later put out another recording of them performing that album live. Some people are prone to purchase only the live set because they were there for the experience, and they want to commemorate that instead of the mass-produced studio version. Am I crazy to carry on that principle with Rifftrax's "Samurai Cop"? Meaning, even if this movie title is available on Rifftrax VOD, I would much rather own it [read: "pay for it!!!"] as a Rifftrax Live! DVD/Blu-ray/file?/whatever..., because I was there for the live experience? [Kind of a lie; I saw it "broadcast live" in a theater in OH. Still way better than nothing!]

Pak-Man

I get it. I tend to own both, but usually watch the clean studio copy.

So I missed the original broadcast and got to catch the encore. This was my first time with Samurai Cop. It's really something. Almost like if Tommy Wisseau was obsessed with cheesy cop movies instead of tragic romance. Loved the short, too. Had a good time.

I've seen the VOD.  It's one of my favorite Rifftrax.  Yes, not much changed in terms of gags, but the one about Elmer Fudd getting as angry as the police chief had me dying.  That, and Bill's quiet "Samurai Wig" at the beginning.  I love the quiet half-jokes they love to throw in.

For those who haven't seen the VOD, the Live version has a pretty massive scene cut out that was included in the "not live" edition of the film.  I would've thought it was to make it more PG-13, but considering that Kevin and Bill said some pretty blue stuff and it's clearly not a film for kids, it appears it was made specifically due to how harsh the scene would be for a captive theater audience just looking for laughs.  The blonde cop that Samurai Cop has an on again/off again relationship with gets tortured by Z'Dar with a seemingly neverending pan of hot grease.  The scene is unnecessary to the plot (they kind of made the point with the other cop), but considering how memorable it is in its awfulness, its absence was noticeable.

I missed the first few minutes, but that short was a winner as well.  I also love how afterwards Bill brought up how the shorts they pick all have a similar theme where the kid learns from some magical creature that then begs for death afterwards.  Very rough material considering the target audience.

EDIT: Wait, did they show that scene in the Live broadcast?  I just saw mention of it earlier in the thread and wondered if they cut it out for the Encore only.
One Man Band Riffs.  18 riffs, over 600 served, since 2009.

Nevermind....

No hot grease scene in the live broadcast...

Pak-Man

I didn't see a hot grease scene.

One of the things that struck me after immersing myself in the new MST3K for a week is how different the tone of these two riffing projects are. The Rifftrax crew attacks their movie. MST3K (At least in its present form) tries to have fun with it. I enjoy both, so I'm not saying one of them is doing it wrong, but the transition happened so gradually with the Mike episodes I never noticed how distinct they actually are.
