Well, count me among those massively unimpressed by 'Thor: Love and Thunder'.

I got the impression as I watched it today that it was intended to be funny in a lot of places, but there wasn't a single thing in the film that got me to even smile.  So it thoroughly failed as a comedy, even worse than Ragnarok did.

There was a huge amount of stuff going on, but incredibly little of it actually seemed to have any real point.  So - I suppose - in that regard it was Shakespearean: "much ado about nothing".

It appeared to be designed largely as a display of visual 'cool shit' ["shit" being a word that was used a LOT in the film - I counted a minimum of five times - there are PLENTY of other swear words: pick another one once in a while].

Spoiler for specific plot point:

Overall, I'd say that this is easily down below 'Thor: The Dark World' as one of the most tedious-to-get-through MCU films.  I actually liked Dark World better.

REQUEST:
Could a moderator move this entire thread to the 'Movie Talk' area of the boards?   It appears to be getting repeatedly missed for MCU film and Dis+ series discussions with it straddling the Film/TV arenas in the 'General/Off-Topic Discussion' area.  Thanks!

Apparently, it had multiple editors so I wouldn't be surprised if there were behind the scenes issues.

I noticed it seemed like sections of it had different "feel" than others, so it makes sense that it had too many cooks.

I liked all the stuff with Jane, Thor was way too annoying up until the last half hour, Valkyrie and Korg were good, the rest was nice eye candy.  So I thought it was mostly fun to watch even with the stupid parts.  Loved the choices for the music.

Seems to be a thing with so many big budget movies where there is a middle section that takes up a bunch of time but really doesn't add anything to the plot, really stands out in this one, if they never went to the city with all the gods the movie would have had the same ending.

Thanks VERY much, EJG III!

I liked Thor 4 pretty well.  I like the outer space / high fantasy style MCU movies.  I can't wait for Guardians of the Galaxy 3.

It's really cool that MCU has such a  wide range of characters that they can make so many different general kinds of movies.
I'm not particularly religious, and I don't really like Muppets, but I do love word play.

I like the outer space / high fantasy style MCU movies as well.  In comics, quite possibly my favorite storyline was Starlin's initial Warlock run (Magus and first major battle with everyone against Thanos).

The problems I have with this Thor film is that it turns Thor 100% into an inconsiderate, narcissistic asshole who is childish in his interpersonal relationship with Jane (his behavior is equivalent to possibly a 5-year old's).  That transformation into a self-centered asshole started in the additional PoS, Thor: Ragnarok.  But, while Ragnarok had occasional bits of watchability, this film is MUCH worse.  In this film, he also becomes a multiple-murderer when he isn't allowed to steal someone else's property.

Seriously, think about that: he asked to take Zeus's property, and killed over a dozen gods in his attempt to steal it - killing FAR more gods than the "God Killer".

That turns him into a serial killer narcissistic sociopath.  Not funny.  Not 'cool'.  And DEFINITELY not REMOTELY a "hero".

THAT is why I have a problem with the film.

Gor was going to kill ALL the gods though.  In the end he didn't, but Thor couldn't have known that at the time.  I mean, sometimes desperate times call for desperate measures.  Sometimes you don't have the luxury of taking the high ground.

I'll have to watch again, but I don't think he actually killed many gods anyway.  Zeus was fine, according to the post credits scene.

I just rewatched it last night and counted.  Thor kills an even dozen gods.  His posse kills likely twice that many (most killed by Valkyrie).  Since most gods can't regenerate (or Gorr would be meaningless), lesser gods than Zeus would have stayed dead.

So, yeah, mass murderers during a felony theft... presented as 'heroes'.

Well I did go to the bathroom around the time they entered that place so maybe I missed something.

I didn't think the guards that turned to gold dust when killed were gods, were they?
But really for me at that point everyone on screen were being such horrible people I really didn't care who killed who.
