Mothra LIVE: How was the show?

This one needs a general discussion thread.

I loved the show as always, but I found myself getting into the movie a lot more than normal. It's weird as all-get-out, and it makes the common mistake of not bringing in the title kaiju until the second half of the movie, but the filler was way more entertaining than the usual "Some kid runs the military for a while" filler. It was strange as all-get-out, but it was fun.

Yeah, I loved it too, which was surprising to me, because I actually went in expecting I was going to dislike it.  The Godzilla/Gamera/Man in Suit are some of my least favorite but this one was great.  I was a little surprised at getting out so quickly, I think it definitely could have used a second short.  I did appreciate the fact that "Soapy" was all new, not a re-hashed short.  The jokes were great.  I did expect a few fat jokes/kenny jokes with the kid...maybe someone had complained.  Someone posted about "dead air" at the beginning which I did notice but it's definitely still worth going to see.

I think my friends and the audience didn't enjoy this as much as I did but I found it actually refreshing to see men in suits, reporters and airports riffed again. Not a classic live show but still above average.

As for the mothra song, the first time Kevin sang along with it. I don't remember subsequent riffs. I think they were more focused on what was happening while the girls sang. I loved how they handled the church bell thing.

I really enjoyed it. More than I thought. I'm old enough to have grown up on these back in the days of UHF and rabbit ears, and loved Kaiju movies. Except this one, since it was about a moth whose primary ability was flying. At least Rodan looked intimidating. One watch and that was more than I could take. But the guys made me enjoy it with the riffs.

is there any truth that  the print of Mothra looked a little dark?

I just want to  say that I don't really get the pacing issues the guys seemed to have, I used to watch a lot of Toho monster movies, and they almost all had the creatures show up between the halfway, three-quarter mark.

Nope. It was a nice, bright print.

I am a little miffed.  I've seen every Live show in the theater except this one.  And the reasons were through no fault of my own.

Apparently we had a thunderstorm on Thursday that caused the download of the live show to malfunction, so on replay today, we got nothing.  A black screen.  The theater people came in and told us we could have a refund and a pass to a movie on another day.

Everyone that wanted to go see it came back to my place and we watched the Live show of Santa Claus vs. the Martians.  But it just wasn't the same.
