It would be a bad idea for episode 9. But they've recast Han Solo, so...*shrug*

It also seems clear to me now that we're inevitably going to get  reboots of the original trilogy.

Geez Im, enough with this vitriol.
Now-now.. Sulfuric Acid has other purposes :-X

Yes :)

OK. Yeah, resignation at this point. SOLO looks great though.

I'd love to see Luke come back... maybe as a force ghost but maybe something more. It all comes down to JJ's script.

i was under the impression that the long-term contract he had to sign said he'd be making these movies 'til the end of time with his yoda.

A possible plot has been leaked by a Reddit user, who is fairly credible because s/he also leaked Last Jedi plot details (well in advance) that were largely correct.

Spoiler

The redditor supposedly saw "early storyboards," which makes sense because Leia seems to be present late in the film.

My take is that the worldbuilding in the new trilogy is already horrible and contradictory, and this plot would make it worse.

A major problem (which I'm not the first to point out) in Force Awakens is that I had no idea how big the Resistance is, and why it was even called the "Resistance" or "Rebellion."  And how big is the Republic? Oh, multiple planets?  Obviously still opposed to the Empire and its descendant?  Then shouldn't Leia's military just be the Republic's Armed Forces?  Is it too much to ask who the protoganists are, and who/what they're fighting for?

As a writer, you can put off these questions for a while, but we do at least need an answer before you nuke the Republic.  Five (or so) planets were obliterated and I still didn't know what the stakes were.

In World War 2 terms, is this like Germany carpet bombing London, or is it like Germany nuking Paris, London, NYC, and Moscow all at once?  The answer turned out to be the latter, but IMO we didn't find that out until the end of Last Jedi when Leia's message was ignored and it was revealed that the Resistance had no known allies.

Again, just horrible worldbuilding.  Now, in the leaked plot, no rebellion has arisen even five years after the First Order obliterated the Republic and killed (?)illions, and it's not because Kylo's been squashing dissidents during a five-year reign of terror.  No, it's because he (the butcher of the Republic) is somehow seen as a benevolent ruler, and the idea of resistance is unpopular.  Fucking ridiculous.

We also may be getting another force user who's "effortlessly" fantastic at everything . . . alright then.

I avoided spoilers for infinity war without any problem, so I will most definitely avoid all spoilers for this film like the plague.

after looking at it i wonder what kind of cool-aid the writers are drinking.

Okay, now you see that at least for myself counts as a spoiler. If we want a spoilers thread for episode 9, maybe somebody should start that and post any potential spoilers there instead.

how that the writers are probably out of the minds counts as a spoiler?

I meant no offense Henry, I just think that certain... opinions should be confined to threads that are explicitly for spoilers.

This example specifically is hard to argue as a spoiler (it's a strong opinion, but vague and it's about "the plot of Ep9," a big subject), but as a rule I agree with Russoguru that opinions about spoilers/leaks should generally be treated as spoilers.

I could imagine a situation where someone's read my past posts and thinks they can predict my preferences fairly well, and then I express a positive or negative opinion about an unknown important event in a film.  Depending on the film, that could tell the reader a lot about what happened in the movie.  At the very least, it could make them rule some events out (which could hurt their viewing experience even if they're wrong).

P.S. I know that the "spoiler-free review" would seem to fall under the definition of "opinions about spoilers," but IMO those are a special case where the reader has been told exactly what they're getting.
