Well, been an up n down Christmas week.  Got ran off the road a week ago and then the video card burnt out Sunday.  The GTX470 I had for 5.5 years wouldn't run at all.  I ordered a GTX960 off of Amazon.  I couldn't afford to get a 970 (really couldn't even afford the 960 either.)

Naturally it hasn't even shipped yet.  Sigh.  Well, at least I can visit at work and on my terribly slow laptop.  Nice thing is that even though the 960 is a "step down" it's several iterations advanced and should still be faster, cooler, and use less power than the 470.

New card arrived today.  (Saturday...nice...didnt think Id see it on a weekend).  Tried running a benchmark on the old GTX 470 but of course it immediately crashed.  Then I couldn't get the card started up again to see in order to remove the drivers.  Installed the GTX 960 despite not removing old drivers and everything is running great.  Was able to complete the benchmark with the new card, matter of fact the fan didn't even spin up like a rocket like the old card.  Doesn't seem to be much of a performance difference...at least not noticeable, but it uses FAR less power (one plug and 400w required as opposed to two and 600/700 required/recommended for the old).  It also doesn't seem to generate anywhere near the heat of the old card for the same performance.
