Program to rip DVDs to MP4s or MKVs that keeps chapter stops?

Does anyone know of a program to rip DVDs to MP4s or MKVs that keeps chapter stops?  If there is a free one, all the better.  If not, it likely would be worth it to me to buy another one.

If anyone cares why:
I was just freaked a couple nights ago by the multi-disc changer that I keep my 'bedtime circular-thought-interrupting' MST3K discs in appearing to die.  [Not a good night's sleep, that.]  It started working again yesterday (for an unknown reason), but alerted me that this DVD changer is likely to die for real soon as it is on and active for usually eight hours a day, every day.  So in anticipation of switching to a hard disc access to them, I started trying to rip some MSTs to files with the program I have [WonderShare Video Converter Ultimate], but found that it doesn't preserve the chapter stops, something very helpful with the night-time episodes (as I can skip over the host segments, which can tend to keep me awake or wake me up).

If you are encoding new files pretty sure HANDBRAKE will do the job.

I use MakeMKV to rip blurays then watch them with VLC and it displays the chapter marks in the progress bar..
Comes in handy with Star Trek TNG to skip past the intro theme 8)

Thanks RVR II :highfive:, I'll check that out as well.  I know you've been recently ripping a lot of your movies to files, so I'm interested to see what you use.

With a couple to choose from it will help, because at this point I'm (partially) looking for the simplest interface that gives good results.  Since I've been pushed so far past my functional capacity in the last few weeks, trying to understand program Wikis and FAQs is like trying to read Google-translated stereo instructions.

For standard rips, I just use DVD Shrink 3.2 and then use PowerDVD 10 to watch it but it doesn't display chapters so I have to guess..
I watch Star Trek DS9 episodes with this program ;D

You've definitely got something wrong in your DVD Shrink 3.2 settings if you are not getting chapters. I've used DVD Shrink 3.2 a good bit & get chapters.

DVD Shrink 3.2 settings:
Edit, Preferences
Preference tab:
Automatically open TS Subfolders is ticked
Output Files tab:
All ticked except Logical remapping of streams

Play the  created VIDEO_TS.IFO file with PowerDVD 10
