Makes sense

VOTE DAMON !

Yeah, I'm not really opposed, except that Damon deserves the spot, and Spacey can go suck a fuck.

I suppose I really should see this Ripley movie at some point, since this isn't the first time I've seen a group collectively praise Damon in it (odd that I haven't seen it yet, considering how much I like him).

As for Spacey, I'd be half tempted to go for him, if only because his performance made the otherwise irritating American Beauty watchable. But then I remember his outrageously smug voice overs, and I get all riled up.

So, Whitaker all the way. A quiet, dignified, generally unique performance in a movie that's much the same.

You sure should.

Here's where I hit a wall...

I want to tell you who not to vote for because that is one of the reasons I picked 1999, but then I am afraid you (meaning anyone) will pick her and KERFLUNKLE!

Confusing

Ok. In my (correct :P ) opinion, Annette Benning should have won for American Beauty over Hilary Swank, who sucks in general and won via sympathy vote* for Boys Don't Cry.

But everyone seems to hate American Beauty, so that is why I was afraid to mention it.

*As someone who highly supports the trans community and thinks they need all the support and sympathy they can get (especially for one that was killed for being trans), I feel weird saying this. My human emotions are complex are annoying )

Feel free to suggest some things to watch, and I will if I can. (Finding the 1999 movies I want to check out to be missing from Netflix and Hulu so far :P)

Here's some more "inspiration"

Actual Academy Winners/Nominees

Best Actress in a Leading Role

Of these, I would really only suggest Annette and Julianne Moore. But I never saw Tumbleweeds, so there ya go.

I will do some more research as well. See who other people think were snubbed.

Although, I notice no love for Gwennie for The Talented Mr. Ripley (good because she sucks).

Thanks, but I doubt any of those would get a vote from me. Juliane Moore will, but not for The End of the Affair.

See, this is where I'm stuck, and it's because women have to do bullshit movies like those to get to play 'Oscar' roles.

I might have to wait and get some inspiration from other folks lists.

It's tricky working out what's a leading and supporting role, if there's only one woman in the main cast is she the leading actress?

Rebecca Pidgeon - The Winslow Boy
Kirsten Dunst - Drop Dead Gorgeous
Eihi Shiina - Audition
Franes O'Connor - Mansfield Park
Hilary Swank - Boys Don't Cry

This is a tough one for me too, since either I haven't seen a lot of the beloved performances (I'm sure Reese Witherspoon in Election would have made it had I seen the movie.  So I can only add three.  Please forgive me.

Joan Cusack - Toy Story 2
Annette Benning - American Beauty
Jessica Lange - Titus

I think not necessarily - I think a movie could potentially have just supporting roles for one gender or the other?

But it really just seems like the Academy 'goes with their gut' anyway.

Give it some time, but if that's all you can do, that's cool*

*Thank you for NOT voting for Hilary Swank

You'll be happy to know I haven't seen Boys Don't Cry, so I won't be voting for her either :)

I vote for all copies of American Beauty to be loaded into a canon and fired into the sun.
